Nyx in the House of Night: Mythology, Folklore and Religion in the PC and Kristin Cast Vampyre Series
Edited by P.C. Cast? Yup. This isn’t another actual book in the series, but a companion of sorts. This oneΒ was sent to me by the publisher, (actually, TWO, one for me, and one for a lucky commenter), and I quickly realized it is a compilation of “works” (essays) by other authors, and professors. Analyzations and comparisons of past relatedΒ folklore andΒ mythology. Greek, vampyre, witches, the history ofΒ some Oklahoma landmarks that inspired the places in the story, Cherokee customs and beliefs, even… the history of cats (poor things,Β worshipped as godsΒ and then despised as demons, and then… well we cuddle ’em now π )

Awakened (House of Night)
Well, this concludes my House of Night marathon, and it’s been quite the journey. From early “meh” moments, toΒ absolute elation. From heart pounding situations that had me staying up all night indulging, to crestfallen disappointment. I developed an almost unhealthy preoccupation with Erik’s tenuous situation and became bitter towards the author’s mid-series change of heart. And then, a bit of an upturn when the author distracted me with a new and intriguing focus. One thing I can say for sure. This series made me feel and overall, thatβs a good thing. Unfortunately, the last few made me feel more drained and aggravated than hungry for more.

Betrayed: A House of Night Novel
This book was the startΒ of my appreciation of the series. The overly-adolescent writing style seemed toned down, and I could actually begin connecting withΒ the characters.
In this installment, Zoey and friends have a new position inΒ their House of Night High School. In book one,Β good triumphed over evil, as they managed to take the “Hags from Hell” down a notch. Now,Β Zoey and “friends”Β are the new leaders of the Daughters of Night, proving thatΒ their good intentions and powerful gifts from the Goddess can help restore balance to their society.
Book Review – Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast
Marked: A House of Night Novel
I’ve had this paperback in my TBR pile for almost two years now, and have finally decided to give the series a try. I’ve read other YA series back when I was new to the genre, and loved them (Twilight, Vampire Diaries and then Vampire Academy), so I had high hopes for this one.
This book, however, did not sweep me off my feet. I was worried. I had heard so many good things about the series as a whole, but judging by this book, I didn’t know if I could make it through and entire “House of Night” reading marathon (which I LOVE to do – immerse myself in a world that is eight books deep – that’sΒ HEAVEN to me).
