What is up with the awesome book deals today!?? Many of ’em started yesterday and I was hoping they’d still be bargain priced today ’cause they’re making my bargain list SO pretty! SO many of my 5-star favorites are on super-sale right now so there are a bunch of my reviews listed next to ’em below. YAY US!!!
Okay so… what I’m reading right now? Kristen Ashley’s latest Soaring (The Magdalene Series Book 2). I’m halfway through it and it has that old-school KA feel my friends! SO many of us are loving it!
Maryse: God I love Kristen Ashley. I just started “Soaring” and I’m not far in yet, but highlighted so much already. Exquisite detail, but better yet, realistic detail. Real adults, real issues, and OMG real insecurities that I totally get. Every relevant detail to bring her heroine to life is there. Love her writing.
Val: It’s so good. I finished last night. She always has amazing characters but this one is amazing. I identified so well with Amelia. I can’t get her and Mickey out of my head. It’s such a great book. Enjoy! I didn’t want it to end.
Amber: I totally agree. Probably the most ‘real’ of any characters she’s written so far IMO. Loved this book, and the lady who thinks Amelia is a Nazi! Lol. SO funny.
Bethany: I finished yesterday and loved it. I loved the kids, the issues, the reality, and the sexy. I want Fight Night… Bring on some Mickey!
MichelleS: I love that she is 47. I love the kids – all of them…even the ones that are crappy right now. She always has the best kids in her books. I don’t like him calling her babe! And she doesn’t like it either! I love that it feels like the old KA!!! YAY for me. okay – time to get back to it….
Now onto the bargains!
P.S. Let me know if I’m missing any or if you loved any (from this list or elsewhere).

So many great sales today! I got the first two Cat and Bones books and I’m excited! Also got Dirty Bad Wrong because I’ve been hearing great things!
Really happy to hear everyone is liking Soaring!
Thanks Maryse!
Happy Friday ladies!! 😀 Okay, first off…The Jack Hammer??? BAHAHAHA!!!!
I snagged A Little Too Much ’cause one of these days I *will* read A Little Too Far. I also checked out the links for the other sales, and now I’m all giddy over Stiltsville, The Illicit Love of a Courtesan (sounds like it just might break my heart a little) and the sequel The Passionate Love of a Rake. And Dirty Bad Wrong…that title alone makes it perfect for me. Kinda describes my mind… *giggle*
Lol Amy! Dirty Bad Wrong TOTALLY describes your mind!
A Little To Much And A Little Too Far… both great books I will never forget!
Lifers by Jane Harvey Berrick is .99$ today… been wanting that to go on sale!
Oh and I got Forbidden AND Intrusion by Charlotte Stein because I just read a short book of hers…..Sheltered…. and really loved it! OK, I’m done now!
I LOVED Sheltered like CRAZY!!!!! OMG MORE people need to read that one. It’s THE awesome book that not many know about. LOL!
Yes Maryse. I had it on my Kindle for over a year and finally read it in one sitting yesterday! More people should read it! And now I’m excited about her other books!
Here’s my review of Sheltered by Charlotte Stein: https://www.maryse.net/books/rock-stars-bad-boys/book-review-sheltered-by-charlotte-stein.html
Yeah Amy, I mean… I just pick and choose for these weekly lists, but I love that I could include the publisher’s entire list of sales this time. After all, so many that I’m sure are awesome that might be what someone else is looking for…
Great review Maryse! I was just grinning like an idiot while reading it! Yes all those feels.. Ahhh… and the steaminess… It was written so well! I was wondering how I could have gotten so much out of this short read, but yep it just did it for me! Loved Van!
Loved sheltered as well 🙂
Finished ‘Soaring’ earlier and couldn’t agree more about it being old school KA feels. It felt real and believable I really liked Amy, Mikey and the kids. Much better than ‘The Will’ so don’t let not liking that story(as I know not everyone was crazy about it) put you off.
Wait Jean…do you mean Forbidden as in THE Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma?? THAT one is next for you. ‘Cause I said so. And so will Maryse. *nudges Maryse* Right Maryse? Tell her she has to read Forbidden next. Go on…tell her!! And yes, I feel like being a book bully today. 😛
Thanks you for posting the Publishers sales!!! Getting books I didnt know I needed…..
I started Skipping a Beat by Sarah Pekkanen and I’m hooked. I’m only about 20% in so I can’t say if it is worth the higher price (I snagged it when it dropped to 1.99 so…yeah), but it seems like I’m getting some feels similar to what y’all are getting from Soaring. It has a couple in their mid-30s, been together since high school, crazy rich but earned it all, marriage has been deteriorating but now suddenly…and I’ll stop there. 😉 It’s one of those where I’m questioning what I would do in the same situation…love or money? But it’s not as simple as that…
And how have I missed Sheltered before?? That’s a one-click for sure.
No Forbidden by Charlotte Stein. I haven’t read the Forbidden you are talking about because I’m pretty sure I figured out how it ends by all the comments and I’m scared!
And you can’t get all bossy like that until you read Surviving Raine and On the Island…. and I know Maryse will agreee with me on that one! Lol!! Oh and what makes today different than any other day…. (the book bully reference)? Hahahaha!!!!!
Snowing here again! So pretty! We’re up to 4 inches here in Philly! Happy first day of Spring!
Okay, I might have to backtrack a bit on the mid-30s thing because I’m not sure about their exact ages, but they are definitely past new adult age…
Hoh!!! Let’s just call today Feisty Friday ’cause it’s ON now!! All in love, of course. 😉
Right Amy!!
I said so too!
Hey! That’s liberating. 😀 we should do that more often…
Right Jean!!
Because we said so, Amy!!! 😛
Ahhhh even morrrre liberating. 😉
*snort*
Renee, if you come across any super-awesomes that i missed, let us know. 🙂
Ohhhhh, I’m gearing up to get all kinds of liberated now…book bully mode switch has just been flipped to MAX!!!
I probably should’ve have had that second pot of coffee… *snicker*
Those Laura Kaye books are usually around $7.99 each, aren’t they? Awesome deal!
I was really close to 1-clicking Dirty, Bad, Wrong….but got scared off by a few reviews. The words “golden shower” were used, I believe. I googled it & its exactly what I thought it was. Eeeeeewwwww. Now I need one of you guys to hold me, pat me on the back, & tell me it’s A….just a few reviewers being a**holes or B….not really as disgusting & unsanitary as it sounds. Cuz I really wanna read it….just not….THAT.
Maryse, I’d watch it. You have to read Murder of Crows because we said so. And also, Fallen Crest High, because we said so! 😛
Heck, I think we could probably get most everyone telling you to read those two. *grins*
Loving Touched so far. I’ve not had much time to read it yet, but I’m at 50% and it’s making me grin a lot.
Lauren, seriously? It has that? Um… skip that part? That was one of the ten books I tried and couldn’t get into due to my mood. I’m looking forward to reading it, just um… I’ll skip that part too.
You know Amy, one of these days you may find yourself stranded on some island and then what? huh? then…. what….? You will be saying, “dang it, I should have read Surviving Raine or One The Island ’cause I’d know what i was supposed to be doing right now”. And you never know – there may be a super hot alpha grumpy alcoholic a-hole there… and then what? or maybe a super sweet amazing teenager that grows into a man right before your eyes. AND THEN WHAT? You will be lost. That’s what. Now go read!!
Maryse hasn’t read Fallen Crest? How did I hear about it then? hmm….. that’s a surprise to me. It was such a Maryse read, you know?
I am still trying to finish Soaring. Man those are long books. That girls writes some seriously long books. I have gotten used to my 300 pagers, you know? I am enjoying the hanky panky though…. he’s one of THOSE guys in bed…. all pushy and bossy. 🙂
Golden shower? Hang on… *looks it up on Google*
:-O LOL!!!!
Dangit! Should have been… 😯
oh, we are playing the say so game?
Raise your hand if you say Maryse has to read Written in Red.
Now raise the other hand if you say Amy has to read On the Island.
LOL MichelleS!! Well since ya put it that way…
One of these days, ladies…one of these days Maryse will join us pervy cougars in loving Mason Kade. 😉
Hey, I already said I would read OTI!! 😛
See why I mentioned both books? *grins*
Michelle S, I found out about it here too. She had a list and said everyone’s recommending it, so I thought, why not? The irony is, she still hasn’t read it!
Amy, pervy cougar? Just because he’s eighteen and I’m… Hrm… Fine! Pervy cougar works.
Jean, Philly?! I live in the Philly area!!!!!
Ok, my head is swimming with all the read this and you read this trash talk!!!
Amy, that book sounds good, but it’s not $1.99 anymore!! *Boo*
Maybe I’ll start Night Owl since After Dark releases tuesday. Still in a book rut…
I’ll join the pervy cougars cuz Mason Kade is in my top five book boyfriends. He just makes me insane!
Don’t feel bad Amy – I haven’t read OT yet either.
I’m reading Rome right now because for some reason I was missing Rule and thought maybe Rome would fit the bill.
Snowing here in CT and I’m not happy about it. I’m ready for spring.
Cheryl, you haven’t read Night Owl, yet? It was great. The little harness and I love his nickname for her. Was not impressed with the sequel, though Fabi loved it.
Tessa & Lauren what the heck are you guys reading. Ewwww.
Amy, maybe because I read them, I think around the same time, I sort of group OTI and Sea of T together in my head. Some one correct me if I’m remembering wrong, never did re reads and been a few years. But to me they have a same sort of feel to them. That is why I think I’m always surprised when anyone mentions you haven’t read OTI, yet.
Oh god I just bought more of the historical romances since Maryse has the easy little links…need to stop but the deals are too good!
Tessa isn’t Touched funny though, I just got a kick out of her and I loved both Batten and Harry. I have no idea what team I would be…maybe more Batten slightly. I’m continuing with Elite and then I need a PNR next again…it’s like my default setting when nothing jumps out.
*raises hand and waves it like crazy* yes everyone who likes pnr needs to read Written in Red. Have ya been reading all the great comments from those who have fabulous sense and took the plung 😉
lol Bev, Lauren is reading the book, Bad Dirty Wrong. I have it as a TBR, but haven’t yet. I’m reading Touched.
Michelle, I’m loving it. I’m just past the introduction of Wasp. *grins* It is funny. I’m at a serious discussion between her and Harry. I’m glad you said you didn’t know which team you’re on, because I’m torn too! Especially with this discussion their having. Harry is winning major points.
Yeah Tracy is another Cougar. Maybe we should be Mason Cougars? Except I also like Jared from Bully too… *sighs*
*giggle*
We’re ganging up on each other. 😉 FUN!!!
Ooh! Just because I’m a brat, Maryse, you should be reading Mile High. You liked In Flight, and you’ll love the rest of the series.
Michelle, I know every time someone comes and mentions that they tried it and loved it I get so happy.I just have this worry that it won’t be Maryse’s jam and then she’ll be stuck writing an honest review but not want to hurt our feelings, lol.
It’s FUN, huh? Wellllllll Missy….how about you read the Fault in our stars!!!! I watched it an cried like a big fat baby who needed a passy. Then it was on again a few days ago and I saw the end and cried again. So read it. ‘Cause I said to.
Pssssstttt……wanna chocolate marshmallow martini????? Omg they’re yummers…..and I love autocorrect right now to help me spell LOL!!!
I feel like I dodged some bullets this Friday. I finally read OTI a week or so ago. What a story! And…I’m smack in the middle of MoC right now. What a fantastical world! I never want to leave.
Fabi, glad you are enjoying your reads! I missed out on the conversation here last night. You guys are too funny! I’m absolutely “loving loving” Mr Daniels!!!! Lol!
Cheryl, I’m in Jenkintown, a small suburb outside Philly. Where are you?
So I looked up Sheletered, by Charlotte Stein since Maryse and Jean both loved it. 3.56 for 162 pages? hmmm…… is it really worth the price of a book for such a short story? Like life changing good? Because I don’t pay more than 99 cents or maybe 1.99 for novellas. hmm…….
I just want to say thank you to all of you for sending me in the right direction for so many wonderful books. I have never commented before, cause I’m kind of shy, but I have been reading this blog quietly for years. Many of these books have touched me deeply. So, thanks!
Amy – I never read The Fault in Our Stars! GASP!!! Because it is listed as the #1 best seller in “Teen & Young Adult Death and Dying Fiction”… that’s an actual sub genre! uh uh…. not going there…. no way…. you can have your death and dying genre.
I never read The Fault in Our Stars either!
I think I must have gotten Sheltered on sale because I typically wouldn’t spend that much either MichelleS.
Someone hijacked my iPad last night ’cause I didn’t leave that comment up there. *hides face with hand*
I had no idea there was an actual sub genre like that! Well, they do meet at a cancer support group so… And the guy who played Agustus was had the cutest mannerisms! I’ll probably read the book at some point because I liked the movie and can only imagine how good the book is. 😉
Heh, Death and dying genre. That is too funny.
Omg Bev… *snort* 😛
Amy?!! Are you trying to distract Maryse from WIR or FCH with a book you haven’t read yet? Seriously, to the island with you.
Fabi, lucky you have one more book left. The rest of us are kicked out until next year.:-(
MichelleS, only just pass the omlette dinner. Did not read at all yesterday.
MichlleS lol!!! I havent read it either, and im right there with you. Im a chicken!
MichelleS there is something sooooooooooooo steamy about it. Its hard to explain but it. Is. Hot. HOT!!!
And the forbiddenish connection is amazing. And i was terrified a few times. This book is my perfect read. Maybe its even better because it was short because it didnte ver drag. This author is such a great writer that she gave me all the feels in that short time.
Sorry guys for my lack of apostrophes. Im typing on my ipad and a bit too lazy to find it. LOL!
LOL Amy!! Feeling happy were we? Good thing for those choco martinis. I have a feeling ill need them if I read The Fault in Our Stars…
And hugs. Lots and lots of hugs.
Gah im still only at 65% of KA’s latest. Her books are awesome but long for sure.
Maryse.
Remember After I Do?
Yeah…you might wanna give Skipping a Beat a try. Different plot, similar feels. I haven’t finished it yet but this just might be a five star read for me.
Wow.
Jean I’m in Haddon Heights.
Amy, why does the expensive book have to be so good?! 🙁
I started Night Owl.
I haven’t read The Fault In our Stars either. I’m a big chicken, although my daughter keeps trying to get me to watch the movie; she’s mean!!
YAY!!! Welcome Paige!!! 😀 I’m so glad you’ve joined us!! *hug*
What are your favorite books?
Ooooh AMY!!! I wanna!!
Paige, its awesome that you’re letting us “see” you now. Good to know you’re a long time lurker so we don’t have to explain the silliness around here. 🙂 It makes finding goods books even more fun. What are you reading now?
Hi, Paige. Please share any recs. IRL I’m beyond shy and took a couple years for me to comment regularly and now I can’t seem to stop.
Ooh, new person! Hi Paige! No worries on being shy. I’m a totally shy introvert IRL. It took me a while to post too, but everyone here is so nice, I ended up addicted. I hope you enjoy it too. 🙂
Finally finished Touched. I absolutely loved it. I also didn’t know who the big bad was until the reveal. Do you know how rare that is? I got number two already. The only thing that slowed me down was real life not letting me read. Best part, it got me out of my slump. Everything looks interesting again!
Hey Paige! I guess we are all shy, but Maryse brings out the best in us! Lol!
Tessa, yes we are all addicted to Maryse and her blog!!
Ha, we’d meet in person and not be able to make eye contact and mumbling and blushing, lol. Well except Amy.
Hi Paige! I think a lot of us were the same and now I love commenting and getting and giving recs. It really is an amazing place to discuss the type of books we all love so join in 🙂
Yey Tessa, I thought it was such a refreshing PNR too and that it might be a read that could ‘unslump’ ya! I know it really kept me guessing as well which is super rare today. I felt it was so successful in that way since it didn’t follow any formula for how the story developed. My other totally new author to me, PNR gem last year was Alaskan Fire by Sara King. Those both were favorites of mine.
Awwww shucks you guys… 😉
OMG…Paige, your comment didn’t show up in my email updates until after we had all been chatting earlier (not sure why *shrug*). Why am I babbling about that? ‘Cause I want you to know that had I seen it sooner I would have given you THIS sooner…*big squeezy welcome hug*!!! 😀 I’m so glad you decided to comment!
Okay, I have to say this (and I would bet the other ladies here feel the same)…I love it when people join in after lurking. Love it!! Everyone should feel welcome. That’s a *hint hint* to any shy lurkers out there. 😉 Y’all need to come out and play!!
*snort* What makes you think that about me, Bev? 😛
Amy that’s really sweet and scary all at once. Lol “come out , come out where ever you are…”. *snicker*
Amy, no idea, lol. I just imagine you’d be buzzing around, hugging, and petting Jeans hair.
Yeah, Fabi, that’s not scary, lol.
Hey, Fabi & MichelleS did you two see this?
https://www.rtconvention.com/
LOL!! Don’t scare poor Paige away… Hey Paige *waving* glad you are commenting. We love commenting (some more than others ) 😉 and recommending books to read. So glad I found this blog, Maryse is great!!!
Haha you guys! Too funny!
Okay, so that’s how you guys are gonna be today!! So we’ve moved from calling me creepy to calling me scary? Next y’all are gonna call me a board hog.
*scrolls through comments*
Oh, wait…
*dying* sitting here trying to figure out what a board hog is — did she mean boar hog? — what kind of hog is that? gonna have to Google to see.
Eveeeentually I figured out what Amy meant by “board” “hog”. like me. Hahaha
And I haven’t even started drinking yet…
Drinking sounds good. Oh wait. It isn’t even three yet. *shakes fist into the air* Blast you, reality!
Michelle, I’ll look into Alaskan Fire. Right now, I deviated with a short story on KU, Vampire House of Pleasure. The name was so corny, I had to. *grins* After that, probably Death Rejoice. Have you read the Kitty Norville series?
Amy, you aren’t creepy or scary, just adorably psychotic. 😛 Honestly it probably keeps the rest of us shy people posting, rather than saying “eep” and running off.
Y’all suck. <——- I'm laughing while saying that. 😉
BB Reid’s Fear Me is on sale for 0.99. I loved it. It’s a darker Bully. Not quite Bully caliber, but then, it’s darker. It takes it far beyond where Bully went.
Tessa, I read the first Kitty book a while ago and barely remember it. I never continued with the series but my library has them all and I’ve been thinking about trying them again. I found another random pnr that has my attention that I might try, Chase the Dark by Annette Marie. I’m always looking for the lesser known or new author pnrs since I’ve read so many of the mainstream ones.
“…petting Jean’s hair” lol
The Awakening of Ivy Leavold is FREE
Jace by TA Grey is FREE
Unmaking of Hunter Kennedy is .99!
Rebel by Elle Casey is .99
Afterburn & Aftershock by Sylvia Day is 1.99
Assumptions by Melanie Codina is 1.99
The Jewel by Amy Ewing is 1.99
Veiled Threat by Shannon Mayer is .99 (first one still free, good pnr series)
Translation of Love by Alice Montalvo-Tribue is .99
Fractured by Sydney Landon is .99
Earth’s Requiem by Ann Gimpel is .99
Thanks, Michelle. Had to grab The unmaking of Hunter Kennedy since it was one of Fabi’s favorites last year.
Awww that is such a sweet YA novel.
I picked up Jace cause I like the name. Lol
You guys are so funny;) I just love it here!!
Kulti by Mariana Zapata just went live!!!!!!! I’m sqeeeeing like a little kid!!! So excited to read it!!!Ahhhhh!!!! She wrote one of my favorite books Under Locke!!! It’s a long one…495 pages so if you need me that’s where I will be:)
MichelleS where you at with Soaring? I’m at 70%…
then on to one of two books for me… Maybe Amy’s or maybe one that I highlighted in last week’s new releases… I’ll tell y’all which one soon.
Yep I got it too since I remember it on Fabi’s favorites. I have Almost as well and How I Fall is free from my list yesterday.
Niki, Under Locke is completely new to me so thanks for the mention because it sounds good!
LOL AMY!!!!!! God I love you guys!!! 😛
All y’all!
Amy, you know we love you!! *raises martini glass*
Nikki, Kulti sounds really good. I’m one-clicking!! 🙂
Just finished Night Owl. Now I know where the manatee came from, but the ending…wtf…must start book 2 now.
Awwwww…group hug around Maryse!!!! Love you bunches, ladies. 😀
Under Locke…that’s a biker book with a close-up of the exhaust pipes on the cover, right? I think I have it…
Amy, that’s it. I thought it sounded familiar. I did read it and Maryse has a review for it.
Cheryl let us know what you think of number two. I loved the scene of him walking the bunny. If I remember there was talk about if the author was female or male.
Thank you Nikii. I love Mariana Zapata! I am one clicking Kulti! Sounds great….that’s why I love this blog I never would have known…
You guys, I am seriously loving this book. I want to gush so badly about it but don’t even know where to start…I’ll just say that her thoughts and feelings and emotions are so real, and I’m feeling everything right along with her. She goes from being fed up with her husband and thinking of leaving to feeling crushed at the thought of not being married to him anymore, then she starts to warm up a little bit to him only to feel that awful sting from past incidents. And I’m feeling it too right along with her!! All of this is after years of growing apart, and now he suddenly wants to give everything – millions! – away (with no say from her whatsoever) and make it all up to her by focusing on their marriage. I thought I would be rooting more for “them,” but the reasons for her reactions are so understandable that I am right there with her, feeling just as confused and mixed up emotionally about the whole situation.
To be painfully honest, her thoughts aren’t far from what I think many wives go through at one time or another, myself included! And if you haven’t gone through spells like that…well, here’s a cookie for you while I go and toss *my* cookies over the perfectness of your marriage. Yeah, I said it. 😉
Jennifer, right? I have read so many books that I never would have thought to read (like a caveman book!!) had it not been for Maryse’s enthusiastic and honest reviews and the lovely ladies here. 😀
Well damn Amy, I think I just might have to get over the cost of the book and buy it after that comment. And no I won’t be taking a cookie!! Nothing perfect here!! 😉
Amy, I had to laugh when I read the reviews. I usually read the three or lower ones. Anyway they were hating on the heroine and I’m thinking to myself that probably means Amy is loving on her. And now your post. Definitely not for me plus one of the reviews had major spoilers so….
Has anyone here read Splintered? Alice in Wonderland is not my favorite but the cover caught my eye and the premise looked interesting so put it on hold at the library.
Damn Bev, LOL!!! 😛 Yeah, I can say I am lovin’ on her. Then again, I was not a Keira hater so…there’s that. 😉
I think you would like it Cheryl…but I am not TOTALLY endorsing it until I am completely finished with it (probably tonight or tomorrow). But so far it’s great!
So I was going through my kindle library and a cover caught my eye but could not remember anything about it or why I bought it in Oct of 2013. That was when I was lurking and it most of been off of a Friday deals list. I put it in the search box and up pops Maryse review. I definitely would not of bought it after reading that review lol. It is Ninety Eight. It sounds like I’ll be in for some..um…fun.
And who was in the comments? Amy & Jean. Amy apparently you were driven to drink and paint your nails by a previous book.
Ok. I’m too lazy to scroll back through the comments. What book are you reading Amy?
Bev, so it was a typical day for Amy in that review….. drinking and painting her nails! Lol!
I picked up Rebel from Michelle’s list! Thank you!
Ok, I had to take a break from reading Last Light for a while. I seriously want to junk punch Matt at this point! So, I’m reading Kulti. I enjoy a sports theme story and the H/h not liking each other so far- I always like the slow build too. Then waiting for Amy’s final verdict on Skipping a Beat.
Is anyone familiar with Kelly Armstrong’s Otherworld series? I read it a few years ago and just ran across a series on Netflix called Bitten that is based on those books. Had to share cause I thought that was pretty cool to find an old UF series adapted for tv.
Finished the Vampire’s Pleasure House. Short story so, uh, very short. I was surprised by good writing, and not comedy but something that drew me in. On the other hand, short. So short. It ended before anything really happened. Still, not bad for a time-traveling vampire book. Seriously, the synopses alone I was expecting either horrifically bad, humorously bad, or just funny. So, I guess happy surprise from this author!
Fabi, I love Bitten. I watched it last year and if you have Syfy, second season is coming soon. 🙂
In trying to catch up on all my series. Reading Until We Fly by Courtney Cole and just had to share this line…..”This man was like catnip for my vagina.”. Lol! Made me think of Amy … Ha!
I love Bitten too and already watched half of season 2 online. I think the actor they have playing Clay is similar to what I pictured he’d be like.
You’re welcome Jean! I got Rebel and Unmaking of Hunter Kennedy. Not seeing too much on sale today so no list until tomorrow.
OMG Bev and Jean!!! LOL!!!! And “catnip for my vagina”??? *snort* It’s vag-nip!! 😛
So I finished Skipping a Beat (Jean, that’s the book I was reading ;)) and my verdict is…wait for it to go on sale, which is how I bought it. It’s normally 10.99 and I snagged it when it dropped to 1.99. It had the potential to be a 5-star read, but I had a few issues with it that made it drop down from that. I thought the situation resolved well and then *BANG* something major happened aaaaand…that was it.
Maybe what threw me off about how quickly things ended was that I wasn’t paying attention to the page numbers but rather the percentage and “time left in book” so I wasn’t able to, I don’t know, adjust my mind frame accurately to where I was at in the book. You know how when you are reading and you know it’s getting near the end, so you get yourself in the frame of mind that things will be wrapping up soon? Well, I was at 73% then turned the page and there was the epilogue. That was it. The remainder of the book was group discussion questions and book excerpts. It just threw me off because even though things were concluding, I was thinking there was still some more of the story ahead for me. So I *did* love the majority of it, but I think the whole percentage thing messed it up for me. Maybe I would feel different if I had been aware of it…but then again, maybe not. *shrug*
I think a lot of times books and movies sometimes are missing that basic format of a beginning, middle, and end. You know sometimes it all flipped around and it works. But a lot of times there will be a great build up but no real ending. Or at the end of the story I’ll notice it had a beginning and an end but nothing in the middle.
I can be fickle though cause sometimes I’ll wonder why it’s dragging. I think that pacing is maybe a hard skill to learn.
Ahhh I’m in book love with Kulti!!!! I can’t keep the smile off my face while reading it…seriously my face hurts from smiling so much!!! Had to drug myself with benadryl at 4:45 to get some sleep!!! For me it’s just one of those special books that you hunt for to find this feeling; I’m at 30% and just want to read it slower so it won’t end!!! Ok back to reading!!! 🙂
HI PAIGE!!! So glad you posted!!! (everyone be on your best behavior, don’t scare Paige away!!!). So….. what are your favorites?
I finished Soaring, finally. Not sure what mood I am in now. I would love a teacher/student forbiddenny kind of thing. Maybe a brother’s friend? I have read them ALL, I think, so I have to do some research. That’s how I found Roam, looking for teacher-student….. and look how great that turned out! So you never know…..
Or go with Eleanor and Park? I think that might be too sweet for my mood right now.
MichelleS, Um no, no it’s not.;-)
Putting the kindle down to focus on some over due library books and 2 over due dvds. *sigh* Why do I do this? Just get one thing at a time Bev, one thing at a time.
Niki, ZzzQuil is great for times when you need to force yourself to stop reading and get some sleep. 😉 No Ambien for me…I’ve heard of people doing some crazy stuff after taking it including having sex with no memory of it, and with my luck I would jump my hubby and rock his world but not remember a thing about it!
Bev, do you ever check out ebooks from your library? From what I know, there are no overdue fees, they just take them back at a certain date…
MichelleS, I *know* that I have at least a few unread “brother’s friend” books in my library, but I’m gonna have to dig a bit to figure out which ones they are. But as for student-teacher books, Maryse has a list of them, and the T-S books I really liked or loved were Drowning Instinct (it’ll kick ya in the gut though), Unteachable, Loving Mr. Daniels and the Wilson Mooney series. I read the WM series when they still had the funky blue and green covers and were titled a bit different (Wilson Mooney Almost Eighteen is now just Almost Eighteen), so it’s been a while but I do remember liking them.
And of course the crazy good one so many of us love, but I don’t wanna say the title in case there are still some that haven’t read it and don’t know that *that* is what happens. 😉
MichelleS, I was good. I’d like to point to the post where Amy said we suck, and I didn’t comment at all. A ROMANCE blog forum, and she said we suck… I was being seriously good. I deleted the comment and everything. *links innocently*
Why did no one tell me about Pieces of You and Me when we were going over step-brother romances? It’s so sweet and angsty. I go from hating the hero to loving him. She’s all antsy in love with one guy and falling for him. (What is it with these poor Aussies having their girl fall for someone else?) So far, good.
MichelleS, have you read Brother’s Keeper by Elizabeth Finn. I’ve had it on my kindle for awhile but have not got to it yet. I’ve seen some great reviews for it though.
Surprise, Surprise I think I may end up a squirrel, again. =-O
Maryse, chose a book because it had a potential “jerk face”, lol. It made me think of one I have, Going the Distance, by Julianna Keyes. I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about her in a couple different places, especially the one coming out on Tuesday. About how her heroes can completely f-up. And, yeah a “jerk face” sounds fun, lol.
Oh Unteachable is brought up again, it’s been almost at the top of my tbr for a few weeks now and I have to get to it soon!
Added Going the Distance and Kulti to my wishlist.
I’m starting a random pnr: Wolf Bride by TS Joyce. Cowboy shifters? Could be interesting…
Cowboy Werewolf, Michelle??? Yee-Haw! Hurry up and report back on that delicious sounding little tid-bit.
I haven’t read My Brother’s Keeper – going to go download the sample now!
Ha! See?? *points at Tessa* I’m not the only one with a dirty mind around here! 😛
My hubby is re-watching season 1 of Game of Thrones, and ohhhhh am I reminded of Golden Dynasty with the whole Khaleesi and Drogo storyline. I wanna read GD for the first time again! If I didn’t have so many books on my Kindle app that I need to read then I would totally revisit Lahn and Circe. *sigh*
Watching The Book Thief. So tempted to read spoilers as I’m almost done and there is at least 3 or 4 ways it could break my heart.
Really!?! I guess with who the narrator is I probably should of seen that coming. :-\
Me? Dirty mind? *grins* Prove it! Oh, wait! *hides her erotica books* Alright, now prove it!
Cowboy werewolf? Why not? Actually, that could come in handy, especially back when ranchers first settled and they had issues with other predators attacking the livestock. The scent of werewolf alone is enough to send the others running. Though it does make me wonder if the cows would be nervous too.
Nikki, I’m reading Kulti too. I’m loving it, but damn I said I like it when the H/h start off not liking each other and have a slow build to their “romance”, but I didn’t mean this slow!!!
Amy, I’m sitting here thinking which book is she talking about? Is it on Maryse’s teacher/student list?
Finished Kulti and loved it….very slow burn but great characters, great premise…love all three of Mariana Zapata’s books. Highly recommend.
Tessa, Is Pieces of You and Me by Pamela Ann and there is a second book coming out this week??
Ooops, book 2 Pieces of Us is already out. Dummy me was looking date would get paperback if ordered today. 🙂
Did any of you read Never Never? It came out a little while back but I’m just now getting around to it. It is adddicting. I can’t put it down.
I’ve got to check out Kulti which everyone seems to be talking about. I love a slow build up!
Fabi, I read Never Never and really liked it but my mind was f’d up at the end! Dying for the next book! May 17th release date!
I just finished it Jean. Read it straight through. Addicting story with a monstrous cliff hanger at the end.
Fabi, I liked Never Never, but it was the ending that made the book for me.
So, just read a review for If by N.G. Jones at Scandalicious and it has me so intrigued. It was a glowing review but a vague one saying to just jump in and enjoy the story as it comes. I’m thinking I may start it this afternoon when I finish my current read. Unless I get distracted by Ginger Scott.
I’m not on twitter but I saw on their feed that Maryse’s review of Soaring was retweeted (?) by Dear Author. I thought that was cool.
Bev, the ending “made” the book for you? Ending? What ending? It doesn’t have one. lol
Ha, Fabi. Very true. The CH, then. Instead of making me want to shake my fist I was stunned in a good way. I did not see it coming.
Haha Fabi…. nope no ending. May 17th can’t get here soon enough! Luckily we have lots of other releases coming before then to look forward to!
Bev! How funny…I just one-clicked If last night after seeing it in my “recommended for you” list on Amazon! That cover alone had my head spinning…
Y’all are brave…I’m not going near Never Never until right before the next one comes out. 😉
Bev – OMG!!! Thank you for that recommendation (Brother’s keeper). I started last night and almost called in sick today. I LOVE IT. So steamy and she is still a virgin – so the steam is all from the anticipation. And she is his little sister’s best friend? And he’s a big ole’ hero. Just fantastic. Exact;y what I needed!!! THANK YOU!!!
Fabi – I read Never Never when it came out. Big cliffy, right? I hated that!
Your welcome MichelleS. I’ll have to actually read it now, lol.
I’ll put it in the carousel on the home screen so it stays front and center. I love when I read from my actual tbr.
Next though is going to be If.
I’m with Bev on this one. I loved the CH. It was such a puzzle and made the mystery that much more interesting. By being a CH, I get to sit and chew on what might have happened. My mind spent days on theories, which is something I love.
Cheryl, I will get the second book Pieces of Us soon. I loved Pieces of You and Me. The angst, the sweet first kiss, poor Greg. I can see why someone might not like Olivia, but I did. Then again, I liked Keira. 😉
I’m just over halfway with Going The Distance. It’s been interesting with this book. When I first started with the book it had all the things I usually would love, likable heroine, very resistant (very) hero, no insta-love, etc, but I just wasn’t quite connecting. Then I realized it was after midnight and I didn’t want to put it down. In fact, picked it back up to read a few more min. It just slowly crept up on me until I was fully invested. I’m definitely picking up her new book on Tues. I just hope this last half goes well.
https://www.chinasichuanfood.com/fried-mantou-with-condensed-milk/
Both of the main characters are working for a few months in a small town in China. Half the time they do not know exactly what they are eating since they do not speak but a few words of mandarin. But in one scene it talks of buns dipped in condensed milk and so I had to Google.
In one scene it was a bun filled with a salty purple filling. But her host was not sure if the English word for them was snack or snake, lol. When Googled beautiful but not sure I’d like the taste.
Loved Kulti so much!!! Definitely one of my top favorites!!! I just love her writing style!!! Now what to read next… Maybe Going the Distance. That one sounds good Bev!
Hey has anyone ever read Priceless by Shannon Mayer? It’s free today and looks interesting (pnr)! Also for those looking for historical romance, I downloaded The Awakening of Ivy Leavold….. it looks really good, has great reviews, and is also free today on Amazon!
Almost done. Haven’t had breakfast, read right through, lol. And saying that not sure how I’d rate it. But, yeah I’m reading the new one.
The hero just messed up BIG time. And his thoughts about Olivia are, ” She’d never fought back, because Olivia didn’t fight fire with fire. She doused it with icy water, then stood , staring pensively at the smoldering ashes as though trying to decide if she should sweep them up or let them blow away in the wind.”
I think this is where, for me came from, not the writing but that the characters, espc Liv, are a little reserved. It’s funny though cause IRL I’m way more like that than the usual firey heroines I read about.
That should say where the slow start came from. Alright I’m done babbling about this book…….for now.;-)
Jean I have both of those on my tbr too. I’m really curious about TAoYL but I went ahead and started Isolated. Bam! Major reveal right from the start. Lol. I won’t have much reading time the rest of today but I’m already hooked.
Bev, love reading all your comments about the one you’re reading. I swear this is the best way to sample books, reading everyone’s comments.
MichelleS has me curious about hers too since it sounds YA which I find so cute.
Fabi, wasn’t that reveal great? It made me soooo happy!
Thanks Fabi. I forgot about Isolated. Looks like you & Jean are happy with it, which is exciting.
Time for lunch. Just wish my fave Chinese restraunt wasn’t in the next town over. 🙁
Read Priceless. I really like the series. Ironically, I had forgotten it, but have as bunch to still read. I think I’m on the 5th book? I don’t know. So many series, and not enough time. *grins* I got Awakening, but haven’t read it yet.
Michelle, what did you think of Elite?
Maryse has me waffling.
If……Wild Reckless
If…….Wild Reckless
Decisions. Decisions.
Wild Reckless!!!! Loving it… halfway through. My heart has palpitated. A few times…
I do not enjoy cliffhangers, so I’m with Amy, I’ll be waiting to read Never, Never.
Tessa, I liked Keira too, so I’ll probably like Pieces of Me and You too!!
Heard about If from the author’s newsletter. Sounds good.
Once I’m finished Kulti (which I have really enjoyed, except for the VERY slow buildup), i’m going to have a hard time deciding on my next book!! 😉
L.P. Dover’s Gloves Off series is on sale too! Each book is only 99 cents right now. They are full of sexy mma fighters and such great reads!
I decided to go with If and now Maryse is KILLING me with her updates. Um, too dramatic?
Have an inkling I’ll be one clicking tomorrow…….unless I go with her This is Falling since I already own that one.:-/
Finished Kulti. Loved it. “I flung up my common sense into the air and held my imaginary ovaries out in sacrifice.” *tee-hee*
Now ? Wild Reckless or…
@ Jean read Proceless by Shannon Mayer…the rest of the series books 2-7 go on sale starting tomorrow for $.99. I picked up her first 3 books this way and then kicked myself later for not buying the whole series on sale. Great PNR read with witches, vampires, dragons, etc. great series and strong heroine
@Cheryl I loved her inner dialogue in Kulti when she realized she was in love with him…again. A couple of LOL moments like in The Deal with this book as well
Jennifer, it did make me laugh, although boy I was frustrated for them, waiting for something to happen!! 😉
Thanks Jennifer! The series sounds awesome!
Vigilante’s Lover #4 released today! Yay me!
