Monday Early Bird Book Releases – 10-28-2019

HAPPY HALLOWEEN WEEK!! It’s time for our Monday early birds list (only 14 on this one but I’ll add more if we find ’em) and that one to the left is already in the top 50 of all of Amazon!!!

Three things:

1.) I’m absolutely hooked on Selena Gomez’s new song (Lose You to Love Me). The lyrics. That beautiful video. Tears… and ALL the feels. ALL of them. “I needed to lose you, to find me.” Whoa.

2.) Stupid insomnia!! I’ve been up since 4am and even though I was tired and soooooo cozy, I just couldn’t fall back asleep. *sigh* I haven’t had that issue in awhile.

3.) I met the most awesome German Shepherd this weekend. He’s only a little over a year old and 95lbs!! He’s HUGE!! But so sweet and playful like a puppy. He tried snuggling in my lap but we both realized he was not lap dog. *snort* 😉

4.) Oooops!! 4 things. 😉 I just found out the biggest Instant Pot is an Amazon deal of the day today, and what a deal it is!! I love mine and use it every single weekend when I prep my food for the week. One of my favorite things to make in it is Fasolakia (greek green beans that I then load up with Feta cheese) and they come out perfect and in no time at all. Yep. My absolute favorite tool in my kitchen, along with my crock pot. But the Instant Pot actually serves as a crockpot too!!! 😀

Friday Finds & Reader Recommendations – 10-25-19

Friday’s Fun Fact about… Taking Chances (Taking Chances Series Book 1).Remember that one?? Of course you do. 😉 Molly McAdams just regaled us with this fun fact about her book cover! She says (and you can see the image comparison here):

Molly McAdams: I always, always love seeing pictures that remind readers of Taking Chances. It seriously puts a smile on my face knowing a picture can trigger memories of that book.

But the one that always cracks me up is this one. I often get it with something along the lines of: “IT LOOKS JUST LIKE TAKING CHANCES! Are they copying it?”

Well . . . the short answer is: No.

This was actually the stock photo Stephanie Mooney transformed into the cover we know and love as Taking Chances!
Isn’t that incredible?

VERY COOL FUN FACT!!! And it was a book that did a number on so many of us!!

Dena: I think the best book for what I didn’t see coming was Taking Chances by Molly McAdams. I had no idea that she could do that to her characters, I think it devastated me more than the author. It was a really great book and I remember it 6 years later.

Tasha J: Ok, I was racking my brain trying to think of the biggest jaw dropping moment in any of the thrillers I’ve read and then I remembered my biggest shock of all… when I first started getting back into reading, honestly I think this was like the 4th book I’d read, and I was so into it and then BAM!! Jaw dropped, lost my breath, continually flipped back and forth saying ‘Omg! No way, is this a joke?!’ And proceeded with my first and maybe only “ugly cry”. Lol And that was Taking Chances by Molly McAdams.

Jan: I’ve never read anything by RL Mathewson, so I might try that new one when it comes out.

Maryse: She’s fantastic. Funny and witty but nothing too over-the-top or dirty, ya know? Totally my kind of humor when I’m in the mood for comedy romance.

  • Grip Series by Kennedy Ryan <— LUCKY LOVED IT LIKE CRAZY!! Seriously… and so did Val, Andrea & Whitney!!

Lucky: Ever read one of those books that got you thinking about the world or about things that you have never really cared about but they are there?¿??  Then do yourself a huge favor put down the book you’re reading and start Grip asap. I had to put it down, collect my emotions, tell everyone am okay before resuming again …Just read it and for your info, GRIP IS MINE.

Val: One if my most favorite love stories and does a great job introducing and talking about some social justice issues for people of color we all need to be talking about.

Andrea: OMG this series is SO GOOD!!! I rarely cry at books and I UGLY cried at this one in the best of ways. It’s my favorite by her!!!

Whitney: This series was epic 🙌🏼❤️

  • Just Ten Seconds by Jeannine Colette <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK! LOVE AFTER LOSS…

Michele G: I absolutely adored Just Ten Seconds! 5 star read for me! I don’t know how she does it but Jeannine Colette always seems to write the perfect swoony man and Dean Delgado is no exception.

Do yourself a favor and jump into this one without reading a lot of reviews…the less you know, the better!

Harper: I read twice in a blue moon too and really liked it. I like everything Christina Lauren writes. Her characters tend to be mature and know how to communicate. Thats what really attracts me to them.

Its really rare with the new books in contemporary romance that the H and h don’t linger in miscommunication and resolve their problems in a reasonable way and time frame. I love the character development as well.

AUDIOBOOK L:DVERS!

Nay: I finished listening to To Kill a Mockingbird and really enjoyed it. As I mentioned before, Sissy Spacek’s narration was wonderful, and it didn’t hurt that I had Gregory Peck’s Atticus in my mind the entire time.

Now I’m listening to Room: A Novel by Emma Donoghue and I think it’s going to be great! I’m only 10% in, but I’m loving the narration–it’s full cast with each person doing their own part, which is my fave!

Maryse: I LOVED ROOM!!!!!!!!! One of my favorites. Definitely a psych-thriller, but an emotional story of growth as well.

Michele G: I listened to a really well done audiobook recently that’s been out for a little bit…Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes. It’s women’s fiction and easily scored another 5 stars from me. There wasn’t anything fancy about it – no breathtaking twists or anything – just a heartfelt story about life and finding your way through the difficult times to eventually find happiness again. It was so good!

Leslie M: I’m finishing up an audiobook duet of Consolation & Conviction by Corinne Michaels and then will need something else for rest of weekend. I might try more Corinne Michaels as she has lots on Audible Escape.

Reader Recommendations – Our Favorite Time Travel Romance Books

Jamie’s looking for a specific genre, and while I DO have some favorites, and a category for it (I’ll link it below), I figured I’d open up her question the all of our fellow readers for their own recommendations. ‘Cause obviously I LOVE this genre too (I just realized I’ve quite a few, and loved them most of ’em like crazy). 😀

She asks:

Do you have a list of your favorite Time Travel books?

I was thinking of Outlander, Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander Book 1) by Karen Marie Moning and The Fantasyland Series by Kristen Ashley.

Do you have any other favorites?

Maryse: You bet, Jamie!! Here is the entire “Time Travel” category on my blog (included reviews, series reading orders and favorites). Speaking of which, my favorites are the exact ones you have mentioned (I’ll include my reviews below).

I’m dying to know what everyone’s favorites are too!!

I already know many readers here are going to adamantly exclaim that Calia Read’s “Surviving Time Trilogy” (that one up there to the left) is a recent HUGE TIME TRAVEL FAVORITE!! I gotta get on that one ASAP (I’m actually SO in the mood for this genre right now)!!

MichelleS: I’m reading a perfect “summer read”. It’s a time travel romance. She’s an antique store owner who finds a photograph she’s drawn to. She gets thrown back to 1912 Charleston & is the wife of a broody, well off man who hates her. She wants to get back to her fiancé in 2017. Really good story so far! It’s called The Surviving Trace. It’s got the formula I love: feisty girl, brooding man. Yay.

Nicole A: I have to say I’ve been sleeping rather poorly since you posted about Calia Reeds Surviving Time Trilogy, I AM OBSESSED!! It’s so good!! I blew through book one and I’m about halfway through book two. Great recommendation!

Maryse: So of course I will add in my own recommendations by way of my book reviews on my favorites:

Rosy: Well i have to say that my ultimate favorite book and series, is “Outlander”. The books are super large, but great reads from start to finish. They have everything that I could ever want in a non-fiction. Once started I promise you, you wont be able to put it down.

It has romance, history, time travel and family, as well as some heart pounding, and suspense filled chapters. They are fantastic reads and I suggest this series to all who love and read as many books as I myself do. I have many favorite books and series, but these will forever stand the test of time within my memory and heart..

Katie: …more of a traditional romance vibe- supernatural celtic highlanders- the McKeltars- yes the fever tie-in/ time travel/ fae interference/ true love… etc

Robyn: Kimberly Adams… If you haven’t read her Roam series you are so missing out! I cannot say enough about Roam. The writing, the characters, the overall plot of the books, the love, the angst, add in some Time travel and you have an unforgettable series. Sigh…..I love these books. …I get all gushie and tingly just thinking of these books!

Maryse: Yes!! I read book #1 too. So good, you’re right! Here’s my review: Book Review – Roam by Kimberly Adams (P.S. I love that author – I’ve read and reviewed a few by her – various genres and LOVED them all!!)

MichelleS: Robyn – totally agree about Roam series. Fantastic! They just got better & better. And the “bad guy”? ARGH. Time travel was a bonus too. I thought I’d get lost, but never did. I read the spinoff series too.

…Still a huge fave of mine. Such a tangled web. You think the time travel gets confusing, but somehow I kept up. Crazy crazy good. …But the last book… blew me away. It was so original. And cool.

MichelleS: …did you ever read MacCoinnich Time Travel series by C. Bybee? It’s kind of all that wrapped up in one (PNR, historical, fantasy). Oldie, but goody.

MichelleS: Also Lord of The Isles, by Debbie Mazzuca. Time travel & highlander = yippee! Loved it. Always a favorite reread for me. I’m now feeling in a nostalgic mood for a good Highland Romance. …It’s very K. M. Moning like…. time travel, highlanders, fantasy element – yay! Anyway…. just some of my faves. 🙂

Michelle: Forgot to tell you too MichelleS that I enjoyed Lord of the Isles last week. Always looking for a good time travel while I wait for the next Outlander book.

Mary: Hi – love your blog. Have you read the Jodi Taylor Time Travel series “The Chronicles of St. Mary’s “? It’s hysterical.

Erin: My favorite time travel scifi/romance book is Just One Damned Thing After Another by Jodi Taylor. Definitely recommend!! Such a great series.

Emily: How about “The Last Highlander: A Scottish Time Travel Romance” by Claire Cross. Involves time travel only to the future. I randomly picked it up to take with me on out trip to Scotland, and Hey! it’s about a group of highlanders who take over Edinbugh castle, which we visited, and falls into the future.

Lynn: I just finished A Discovery of Witches: A Novel (All Souls Trilogy, Book 1) and loved it – I think it will appeal to to readers who like history mixed with their fantasy – being a bit older (I am) gives the reader a different perspective and adds to the appeal of this book and the others…

Michele G: Anyone else on here who has read A Discovery of Witches and the other books in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness? I loved all three of them…

Tabathia: I have to say I have read and reread Discovery of Witches several times and the other two books in the series and I loved them all. It took me a few tries to get into book 2, but once I did I became hooked on that one also.

Robyn: I’m deep into A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I don’t know why I let this sit on my kindle for so long. Such a good book

Tasha J: I just finished Hold My Heart (The Heart Series Book 1) by Soto Esther M from your blog the other day. So good! I was pleasantly surprised, it was well written and has romance, suspense, and time travel. An omg at the ending too, will definatly grab the next book!

MichelleS: I picked Matrix of Destiny #1 for my next read. Michelle posted the bargain price for books 2 and 3 in one of her posts. It is so dang funny I am dying laughing!! It’s just what I needed. So much fun. I mean seriously? A space-time traveler hot hot guy in boots and a cape comes waltzing in to be your “protector”? They’ve been to the mall (hilarious) and McDonalds and the airport – and I am in stitches. Just what the doctor ordered.

Tessa: A Knight in Shining Armor. It’s a time travel and it broke my heart a few times. … It’s a stand alone. She just uses the same family through the centuries. The other books have nothing to do with Knight in Shining Armor.

Dawn M: I love time travel books. My all time favorite is A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Devereaux.

DG: One of the few HR’ s I have read recently was Forever His: A Time-Travel Romance (Stolen Brides Series Book 1) by Shelly Thacker. Time travel, so it was a good mix of CR to HR.

Kooloo: ummmmm Oh ya I have been searching for a book or series that’s like Outlander – you know with time travel and sexy times. AND I may have found it, anyone heard of “Beautiful Wreck” by Larissa Brown?!? OR I’m open for suggestions too Xoxo

MichelleS: I finished The Legend of the Bloodstone (Time Walkers Book 1). 5 STARS. Yipee. Needed that. It was kind of Transcendence meets Outlander meets Karen Marie Moning meets Daughters of the Glen… well, you get the idea. That great old feeling of Time Travel Historical Romance done well. It’s a stand alone, but the series continues if you want to see “what happens next” – which I do. I really really do. He gets al hot and alpha every now and then, and she is feisty and totally out of her 21st century element. It had EVERYTHING I look for in a romance novel. Highly recommend.

Tessa: Oh, FYI to anyone who likes emotional YA with time travel-ish. I finished my TBR challenge If I Wake by Nikki Moyes last night and OMG, it’s everything I’m usually looking for in a book. Its concept was different and unique, my heart ACHED a lot, and it all felt real. Seriously, though, there were major tears at one point. Big heads up on that.

MichelleS: I went old school and read a Time Travel Romance (Eirik: A Time Travel Romance (Mists of Albion Book 1), by Joanna Bell). Loved it. All the old “feels”.

Cindy: …time travel …the series that begins with Reflections in the Nile by Suzanne Frank is very good. The protagonists keep getting shifted in time through most of the ancient civilizations, have to find each other over again for a series of 4 books. I read this in real time as it was being published and I remember eagerly waiting (sometimes years) for the next installment to come out.

bev: I LOVED The The Time Traveler’s Wife. I fell in love With the Time Travelers Wife when I read it. Just so hard. I loved her writing, the premise, and her characters. I devoured it. I still feel bad for those who watched the movie instead, lol. There are scenes in that book I can still remember so clearly. Anyway, I wanted others to love it too. I gave it to my mom to read. Maybe a quarter of the way in, if that, she asked me why do you love this book? What is it about it? I don’t know that she finished it. I couldn’t believe she just couldn’t see it, it was all right there in her hands,lol. I’m pretty sure she felt that way about my love of Jane Eyre, too.

Lisa: BEV!! I did not know Time Travelers Wife was THAT kind of book for you! I FLOVE that book! Absolutely FLUFFING FLOVE it. It is one of my re-read books…a bloody classic. Like Gatsby and Wuthering Heights and Time Travelers Wife! I still fall in love with Henry every time I read it. And I couldn’t even finish watching the movie. It was not good. Sometimes your favorite book need to stay your favorite book, and not become your least favorite movie. … I re-read because I love Henry so much.

Maryse: GASP!! I haven’t read it yet… though I DID watch the movie and was HOOKED from start to finish. Gah… that one was one of my favorite love stories ever and hurts my heart so bad. I need to read it.

MichellesS: I’m listening to Time Traveler’s Wife, because shhhhhhh I never read it! It’s a long book people!

Paige C: Most epic read… Tough one. I absolutely love The Time Traveler’s Wife so I pick that.

Cody: I loved the Time Traveller’s Wife. I think it was the first book I ever read twice! So different from anything I had ever read.

Julie: One of my old favorites is Son of the Morning by Linda Howard. In fact, I believe it was the first time travel I ever read. Maybe that is why it is special to me.

Tessa: The Last Viking (Viking II series Book 1) by Sandra Hill. 🙂 I read that when it came out years ago and it had me giggling. She actually does a lot of time travel books.

Tessa: Johanna Lindsey’s Until Forever. Loved that one too.

Tessa: I have to mention Remembrance by Jude Deveraux. I read that book so many times. It is a different take on time travel, doing so through hypnosis vs actual time travel, but my heart… 😀

Jackie: Just adding one more to your list, The Dream Daughter: A Novel by Diane Chamberlain. I LOVED this book and recommended to many friends last year who all loved it as well. Not much of a romance, but one of the best time travel books.

Maryse: OH WOW this one sounds wonderful!!! That cover!!

Donna: The Immortal Descendants by April White is fantastic! She’s a brilliant author. It has time travel, vampires and shifters. I loved it!

Bonnie: I absolutely LOVE time travel books. Constance O’Day Flannery was the author who introduced me to them back in the early 90’s.

She asks:

I’m trying to find a book.

It’s a modern western written in the 1980s – probably only published as a paperback.

A cantankerous old man sells his ranch to a widow with children just to spite his neighbor, a well to do rancher. The land sold was part of the rancher’s original holdings and he’s angry about the sale and tries to buy the property from the new owner.

Love blossoms. Has a HEA.

Anyone know it?

Maryse: Sounds close except I think she inherited it from her grandmother? Though the Hero was very annoyed with her… 😉 I loved that one!!

Tessa: Agh. I read this. I think I read it due to Amy’s rec. Maybe she knows? I remember enjoying it though.

Margie: It sounds like Dakota Dreamin by Janet Dailey from 1981. It’s available as a Kindle book.

Reader Question – The book about the heroine that is suffering trauma because of what she witnessed as a child…

Danielle needs our book help and this one deals with very dark subject matter (put a chill up my spine) so I’m putting a trigger warning right now.

The bright side? It sounds like one of personal growth and an HEA once the Hero comes into the picture, so at least there’s that.

She asks:

Hey Maryse, can you and your followers please help me find this book?

I’ve been looking for it for years. I hope it’s as good as my mind keeps telling me it was. I read this book when I was 15/16 in 2010/2011.

The book is about a girl who has childhood trauma from watching her stepfather rape her 2 or 3 year old half-sisters (his daughters). The stepfather never touched her because he found her disgusting because she wasn’t his.

The heroine goes to work for the hero, who is either a private investigator or does private security. Either way he owns the company. They end up falling in love and he has to save her from her deranged family at the end of the book.
