Following my heart, one book at a time...
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo: A Novel
This is one of my favorite authors and I have been so excited to read her latest (in fact, I received a review copy, and I held off so I could devour it right around release day) and that time is here! Almost. 😉
And I just want to say, that this is one of those that has that perfect, gasp-worthy, last line that brings it all together.
Maryse: I am reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo!!!!
!!!!! FINALLLLLLLLLY I can jump in. *squeeeeeee*!!!!
The Gravity of Us
This was another one of those “perfect” books for me. Wonderfully written, smooth flowing story with realistic dialogue and it had just enough of everything, and not too much of anything. I LOVED it.
Jean: I basically read it in one day! IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Ela: Maryse! YOU MUST READ THE GRAVITY OF US STAT!
Jean: Maryse, I second Ela’s comment….YOU MUST READ THE GRAVITY OF US ASAP!!!!!! IN FACT, EVERYONE HERE MUST READ IT!!!!!!!
Melinda: Ohh Maryse, I just finished “The Gravity of Us”. I loooved it. Def 5 stars. thanks Jean. Great Rec.
The Brave Line
I loved it (and I’m going to say I 5-star loved the second half of the book).
The first half was very good. Second half was intense and the best part of it all. In fact, I devoured it, and I’m surprised I did, ’cause it’s HOT!!!!! Hotter than I usually stick with.
Like eye-buggingly, cheek blushingly OMG. WHOA. HOT!!!!!!!!
Yet, for such a STEAMY (and I meant steamy spelled D-I-R-T-Y) steamy, this book has SO much emotion, intense feels, and backstory (and current story) that I fell in love with everyone in it.
Foreigner: 10th Anniversary Edition (Foreigner series) by C.J. Cherryh
Review by Johanne Pearl Couturier
4.5 stars
Science fiction at its best! Imagine humans lost in space. A LOT of humans. The planet they are close to is already inhabited by a race of humanoids that seem to have developed technology in a way that looks like humans when they were using steam trains. Some humans decide to colonize and others will just go on in their supersized spaceship to find a better place.
They land and establish the laboratory in an area where they think there are no people living close by, but they are wrong and first contact… well, it rapidly leads to war, both parties not understanding each other… written many many years ago, this is so realistic!
Cruel & Beautiful (A Cruel and Beautiful Book Book 1)
<— *claps and claps and claps* HOORAY!!!! A slightly older one from my TBR list that my friend Samantha finally convinced me to bring right back to the top. And I couldn’t help it after her reaction (and remembering Amy mentioning it a ton), so I jumped in.
Samantha: you HAVE to read this book. It’s the best book I’ve ever read.
Maryse: ON IT. Thank you!!!
Samantha: I laughed, I cried and the plot twist… Omg!
