Willing Victim: Remastered
Excellent little book (only 119 pages), if I do say so myself! Usually I don’t get enough from a short story to emotionally connect with the characters, but this one had me riveted. Not because of any action or suspense, but simply because the dynamic between the two main characters captured me. A little bit of the unknown, and an already shy’ish woman takes a huge chance on someone she can’t stop looking at. She approaches him.

If I Stay
One of my best friends vehemently recommended this book (and book #2) half a year ago, and reader recommendations for it continued over the last few months. While I believe it is considered “YA” it doesn’t have that YA feel of high school drama, backstabbing and whatnot. This one is deep. VERY deep, and while intense romance and steamy scenes were not a part of the story, the emotional connections to the main character’s past, and current reality are strong enough that nothing else matters. This book is not about “teen drama”. It is about unavoidable circumstances, consequences and choices. And even then, one wonders if there was ever any choice at all.
In 2011 I read 117 books. Or actually, I should say, I completed exactly 110 books, and didn’t finish seven of ’em. Wanna know how I came up with this list? Most of these are the books that I have read, and/or have re-read this year that continue to “live” in my Kindle vs. being “archived” and deleted out of my main virtual library.
You see, even though archiving my e-books doesn’t delete them from my account, and I can retrieve them at any time, I can’t bear to part with these. I need to see them every day, as I scroll though my unread books (just seeing them gives me butterflies). I need to open them up every once in awhile, and re-read my favorite highlighted parts, when I’m reminiscing or when I’m bored but don’t have the time to start a brand new book. And sometimes, I just need to re-read them altogether.
This one (book#1 in the “New Species” series) came highly recommended by my friend, Tina and I must admit, I loved it too. Interesting premise, awesome intensity between the two main characters, and some all-too familiar “social issues” were explored. And of course, he’s an uber-alpha. BIG TIME. Even more so then the alphas I’ve been enjoying lately, but there’s a reason why this one takes it a step above our “human” bad-boys. Because number “416” (later known as “Fury”) is not entirely human.
Poughkeepsie (The Poughkeepsie Brotherhood Series Book 1)
Okay so I loved it. I really did. Umm… okay maybe liked it a lot? Ohhhhh I dunno. I’m on the fence between really really liked it and loved it. And it’s because I’m a bit disappointed in the direction the story took. Not that it wasn’t exciting, or nervewrackingly good. ‘Cause it was. I almost couldn’t put it down, and all I did was think about it when I had to. BUT. And this is a BIG BUT. This book, had it continued in the mode I thought it was going in, was going to be a 5 star, for me. But because it basically went all-out crazy in the middle, I’m sticking with 4 stars.
