in Book Recommendations

This one started out as a “reader question” but the great recommendations just kept coming, so I made it a list, instead.

Now of course we are ALL looking for alpha-male books, ’cause that’s pretty much our thing, isn’t it? ;) Alpha romance? US!! It’s a given. It’s much of what brought all of us readers together. Our love of Alpha McBossypants heroes that infuriate us, and then turn around and give us butterflies in our stomach. BEST. FEELING. EVER.

But let’s thank these two readers that have re-activated our love of good alpha-lists, and the books that make ‘em!

Mindi needs our alpha-male book help! She asks:

Mindi: OK-I am in a complete book funk right now… I want a good Alpha Male book and I want one now! Any recommendations? I have already read all of Kristen Ashley’s books!

Celeste: Can I just say, I agree Mindy. I’ve been in a book funk for this very reason.

Alyssa: Ok. I have no idea because I get my fix with Kristen Ashley

Fabi: I guess I will also jump on whatever recs you receive. But, they’re going to have to be a really strong, bad-boy, dominant alpha-type. Preferably with a feisty heroine. Are authors not writing as many of these anymore? They are not as easy to find as they used to be. I don’t want an emo H. lol

Katy: Thanks for this post!! I’ve been searching high and low and keep getting underwhelmed by all the ones I try!

LOL!!! They are quite particular, aren’t they? But I’m with ‘em. What are your most LOVED, BEST EVER alpha-males? (P.S. We already know who mine are… Travis (Beautiful Disaster), Tate (Sweeet Dreams), Christian Grey (Fifty Shades) and Zsadist (Lover Awakened)). ;)

So now it’s YOUR turn! :D

Tiffany: Kathleen Turner Series by Tiffany Snow!

Michelle: I absolutely loved the Kathleen Turner series. It’s nonstop action, drama, mystery and romance (with the best love triangle!) start to finish. I read all of them in a few sittings.

Cindy: I also have to mention that I devoured the entire Kathleen Turner series… Each book gets better and better and builds. (And she gets herself into quite the situations) The two leading men are OMG wow!

Chantelle: Surviving Raine by Shay Savage is amazing!

MichelleS: You’d get your bad boy fix (he’s like a good M. Sheehan kind of bad guy)… and get a little island lovin’…. and a likable female lead.

Fabi: Surviving Raine by Shay Savage, was one of my top five reads of 2014 and has such a unique male POV that all you feel is “her” reactions. Incredible book.

Kristin: Im reading the The Seven Series right now. Not quite as bad ass as Kristen Ashley’s guys (but they are hard to replace) but I love the series anyway

AP: For anyone looking for something different: I was in a post-”the deal” funk too and started reading the seven series by Dannika Dark. It’s paranornal- about shifters actually- but it’s amazing! It has everything we crave- hot men, fiesty women, angst, action (in and out of bed of course!), humor. The series reminds me of the rock chick series by kristen Ashley… I read the Mageri series first but you don’t need to read them before starting this one. And each book is a different story too so you get your HEA and each book after follows in sequence.

MichelleS: I’m a huge fan of the Mageri series and the Seven series.

Elmarie: Concealment (The Cassano Series Book 1) and Consumed by Scarlet Wolfe. Then Beloved and Beholden and Conviction by Corinne Michaels

Pat: Corinne Michaels also. Sexy, funny, romantic, great characters.

Irene: The Traveling Man and The Traveling Woman. Alpha male and feisty heroine.

Rebecka: The Traveling Man was Fantastic. I young love to adult love over several summers GAH!

Jessica: Fighting Destiny by amelia hutchins. Has both bad ass female and super bad ass male

Fabi: the fighting Destiny series is awesome. Plenty of romance and steam.

Grey: Ohhh! Fighting Destiny, definitely gets my vote for what should be your first pick!! Mmm, that Ryder, he can … rats, I can’t say anything else here or I’d spoil it for you! However, he’s right up there with V and Barrons as one of my favorite supernatural beings…

Jodi: I second Amelia Hutchins and throw in Aurora Rose Reynolds.

Tasha: A is for Alpha Male by Laurel Ulen Curtis is based on the guys in the KA books

Kim:  I have to say I loved A is for Alpha Male, Haley and her mom made me laugh so hard and all the KA references had me completely fan-girling!

Jenn: Just finished A is for Alpha male? I loved it. *****

Megan: 1001 Dark Nights by Cherise Sinclair (Master of Freedom: A Mountain Masters Novella (Mountain Masters & Dark Haven Book 5).

Heather: all the male characters in the Master of the Shadowlands series, by Cherise Sinclair, are hot alpha males.

Maggie: i found this series Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair. it opened up the door for me in understanding BDSM the thrill, suspense, the good and bad guys, loved the story line and the masters..the good ones not to dark but dark enough.

Jennifer: Remy by Katy Evans (Maryse’s book review of “Real“) & Hacker Series by Meredith Wilde

Tracey: I just read hardwired and hardpressed (part of the hacker series)! Great story with many fifty like steamy moments. By mereidth wild. Great read

Stacey: Real by Katy Evans……*sigh*, Remy will always be my number one!

MichelleS: Remy is great, if you’re in the mood for possessive and masculine…

Jean: I love Remy!!!!! Sigh…..

Sarah: I just recently read and loved The Sin Brothers series by Rebecca Zanetti. Awesome romantic suspense with super hot alpha males and strong, feisty heroines. Highly recommend it!

Michelle: Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti …I’m dying to read since I love that author.

Georgia: Rebecca Zanetti series – SINS series is soo good. Fast paced and HOT. Look at those covers.

Melissa: Love Rebecca Zanetti!!!

Jo: Tear Asunder Series Nashoda Rose!

Annie: Just finished Overwhelmed by You…..loved this one even more than the first two in the series by Nashoda Rose! Rock star bad boy with a whole lot of baggage meets his match with a girl who drives him crazy!! LOVED IT!!!

Melissa: If you are okay with BDSM, then Lexi Blake‘s books are good.

Janet: I’m reading the Lexi Blake’s ‘Masters and Merceneries’ series that you mentioned about a week ago, and really enjoying them. They’re pretty addictive…

Gemma: This Man Trilogy Jodi Ellen malpas. Also full contact by Sarah Castille uber alpha!!

Niki: I vote for This Man series!!! I loved it and will read anything that she writes :)

Carrie: You are KILLING me asking me to pick a favorite. I am going with Jesse Ward from the This Man Trilogy by Jodi Ellen Malpas. I feel like I am cheating by picking one but there it is.

Maryse: I LOVED Against the Ropes by Sarah Castille and want to read the rest. FANTASTIC!!

Anne: Angelica Chase - Opulence. It’s book 1 in The Excess series and hot dam has 2 alphas in it!

Charisse: Totally agree Anne! Her Sexual Awakenings series is pretty great too! I love serials!
Anne: She does write HOT men but also strong females who I find myself routing for.

Charisse: Songs of Submission Series by CD Reiss! -fans self- Jonathan Drazen will make you forget Christian Grey and Jesse Ward.

Nicole: Love Nalini Singh. Paranormal and her new rock kiss series.

Laurie: Nalini’s new one is awesome!! Read it in the one sitting!!

IsDonIsGood: she just keeps this Psy/Changling world moving forward and deepening in width and breadth. Love revisiting this world and seeing it all come together.

Leslie: Tristan & Danika series by RK Lilly…..or Enchanted and Desired by Eva Simone. Love Always Killer Instincts series by Elle Kennedy! Alpha men and bad ass lady assassins with a whole lot of sexy times. (Here’s Maryse’s review of Bad Things by R.K. Lilley)

Julie: -Lovely Trigger (Tristan & Danika #3) – my fav of this author’s books which says a lot b/c they are all good – such a great series!

Jessie: The trilogy of Tristan and Danika, in my opinion, was even better and more emotional than Up In The Air, trilogy. I highly recommend these books they remind me so much of Fifty Shades that I sometimes get them mixed up! They are totally worth the time and money of buying and reading them!

Amy: Tristan and Danika will always be one of my all-time favorites. :)

Robyn: The Mageri Series and The Seven Series by Dannika Dark. Anything by Tiffany Reisz, start with The Mistress: The Original Sinners Book 4. Stage Dive Series by Kylie Scott…

Liz:  Kylie Scott’s writing style is just so incredible good. The characters carry the story and each of them is so different, but each of them attractive on such a different level.

Karina: I love your books Kylie Scott!! :)

Angie: Kylie Scott’s got everything to offer as a writer, but I think I like how she handles all those internal moments. Her characters are always just complex enough and ‘normal’ enough to make me certain that we’ll be bumping into each other on the street one of these days.

Marina: I LOVE TIFFANI REISZ and never want her books to end.

MichelleS: I am reading The Virgin (Original Sinners #7) by Tiffany Reisz. Man. This woman can write Taboo Erotica like no one else. She is one kinky girl. I am hooked on Kingsley and Soren and Nora.

Grey: Add my name to the fangirls of Tiffany Reisz’s The Saint. Love her writing. Love the characters, even when “we’re not supposed to” love them. Original. Spicy. Whew, and the smut… killer! Definitely a 5 star! Cannot wait for the next installment in the series!

Donna: The Kane Trilogy

Kelly: Kane trilogy rocks

Gemma: Stylo Fantome’s Kane Series – awesome alpha & great heroine

Vlatka: Check out Joanna Wylde‘s books, JB Salsbury‘s books, and Madeline Sheehan‘s books (hers are a bit on the gritty side) (Here’s Maryse’s review of Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan and Reaper’s Property by Joanna Wylde)

Aleksandra: I ADORE Joanna Wylde <3

Lori: I’m reading Devil’s Game by Joanna Wylde now, and loving it. Great MC series.

Babs: I LOVE Joanna Wylde’s M.C. series!

Debbie: Jonah from fighting for flight!!! Love me some fighters!!

Hammy: Ohhh Fighting For Flight stole my panties. NO fight necessary! Jonah… oh yeah! I got my shark teeth out and devoured this one.

Jean: Madeline Sheehan! Best MC series ever!

Amy: have you read the Undeniable series by Madeline Sheehan? Those books are gritty and perfect MC books. Hope you’re not easily offended though. *giggle*

Danicka: Just read Revved and l loved it

Rose: Blew threw Revved – hard to put down and he sorta reminded me of Kellan Kyle?? … when you’re ready to get back to the “bad boy’s”(lol) you should give this one a try. If you liked Jake Weathers in her Storm series then you’ll definitely like this one.

Susan: Revved was another one I didn’t want to put down.

Cheryl: I just finished reading Revved and I LOVED it!! It has that feel. Good thing I didn’t have to work today, because it was hard to put down. Carrick is the bad boy that you love. Only negative is I wanted to slap the h, Andi a couple times. Got me out of my book rut!! ;)

Carol: The Corps Security by Harper Sloan or a Storm MC series by nina levine. I think storm is currently free .

Casey: Corps Security Series Harper Sloan!!!

Kelly: The Master by Kresley Cole, Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn. ohhhh, just read Hyde and Seek by Layla Frost. Totally Alpha and reeeeeally good

Janet: Nine Minutes was fantastic -stayed up all night to finish it. Great recommendation!

Jenn: Absolutely LOVED nine minutes! Couldn’t put it down! Cannot wait for book 2!

linh: Nine Minutes. Oh my. Book heaven.

Susan: Anything Kristen Ashley!! Love them!!!

Becky: Kristen ashley is a jewel. Love her books. Love the stories and i feel like the character of each single book i read. It makes me enjoy my life, my love.

MichelleF: I love Kristen Ashley! Her series The Burgs is coming to audio also. I haven’t read that one but I seem to love everything she writes so I’m going to grab that one too!

MichelleB: Sometimes the male in first person makes them sound too whiny and non alpha. Like it’s too obvious a woman wrote it. Kristen Ashley does it perfectly. Her guys pop in at the right spots, third person and nail it.

Donna: I’m reading Kristen Ashley At Peace. I tell ya she never disappoint. I have heard so much about Joe, I see why ahhh

Linda:  have been happily in a Kristen Ashley fog for the last few days gearing up for last of the Three series coming out on Tuesday!!! Until the Sun Falls from the Sky and With Everything I Am!! Yep pure heavenly book fog!!!!*sigh* 5star reads!!!

Sam: Alanea Alder writes some great female characters.

Sam: Also anything by Tillie Cole x

Nic: just finished Tillie Cole’s Second book in the Hangman Biker series…Wow this story keeps getting better. Even more violence than the first which I didn’t know was possible but the story is amazing.

Jessica:  I read Raze and it is a must read. Tillie Cole is truly gifted… It is dark… Like vegemite (Ozzy spread… Basically this black salty condiment, creates a total sensory overload, kinda disgusting… But you keep going back for more).

JenC: I have absolutely ADORED and devoured Tillie Cole’s other books so I’m thinking It Ain’t Me, Babe might have to be up next tonight – not that I needed any push in that direction but after reading these comments.. yep!

Victoria: Any Lynda Chance book- OTT alphas!

Amber: Hero by Samantha Young

Margie: This probably can also go under What to Read after KA – Hero by Samantha Young. Some of her books are better than others. But just finished this and it’s terrific. Great strong heroine and alpha hero. Lots of angst. But a good story. Has HEA and no cliffhanger. Hope this is a series.

Shell: I randomly picked to read ‘Hero’ by Samantha Young, don’t know if any of you girls have read it, I am half way through and I am loving it. It’s a millionaire romance and written really well with really likeable characters.

Lisa S: Ditching the Dream by Author Isabelle Peterson features the bold Elizabeth, a 40+ y/o neglected housewife who ditches her husband to be independent for the first time in NYC. She meets alpha male Jack Stevens and hot Kevin Parker. The sequel is Not In My Wildest Dreams. Loved both. DOMMING THE HEIRESS by Talon ps. It’s a novella about a female CEO who wants to be dominated. The twist is that the Dom who wants her is rejected because he is younger than she. She agrees to be blindfolded because she tends to top from the bottom. He has to be a strong enough Dom to control her. Excellent! Ryderthe prequel novella by Jani Kay is on sale… as are books 1 & 2. He is rude, crude, alpha MC biker. This is erotica with a story. Two Worlds Colliding and Unchain My Heart are books 1 and 2. Jade is independent and earns her own money, not a pushover.

Megan: Currently reading “Better When He’s Bad” and loving it!

Allison: It sorta gets lost in the shuffle, but one of my very favorites is Jennifer Lyon’s The Plus One Chronicles. Kele Moon’s Battered Hearts Series is also amazing. (and the spinoffs have been great too!) Joey W Hill’s Natural Law is totally different but exciting and deep. And, if you’ve missed it you have gotta visit Sector 4 with Kit Rocha’s Beyond Series.

Cryss: Highland Wolf Clan Series by A K Michaels

Kay: KC Lynn Men Of Honor Series. The heroes are all alpha ex-navy seals. Awesome heroines. Great interaction between all the characters. First book is Fighting Temptation, then Sweet Temptation, then Resisting Temptation. My favorite books by far!!!!

Audrey: Titan Series Reading Orders by Cristin Harber start with Winters heat. It’s as alpha as you can get and IMO.. Better than KA’s. Great heroines too.

Barb: Re-read ‘Heaven and Hell

Author Sandra Fitzgerald: Three, Two, One (321): (A Dark Suspense) good read a bit on the mummy porn side but really good. Tho u’ve probability already read it!

Mindi: Awesome! Thanks for all the recommendations….now I need to pick one!!

Inez: The Sound of Salvation by I.A. Dice

Dina: Driven series by Kristie Bromberg. ..the absolute best!

Gwen: Jamie begleys mc books are good

Carol: Well there is alwAys Kresley Cole!

Jeannie: If you love Kristen Ashley, I highly recommend Aurora Rose Reynolds. Has the same feel and definitely alpha males. I devoured her first four books, loved them!

Quick someone take my temperature. I must be sick, lol. I have not felt the need to one click the last couple weeks. Well, to at least to the same degree. Maybe cause I have a lot of these or these authors already, unread. I don’t know.
It took me a bit to realize this is Fridays list, lol. It’s themed. Nice.

melanie cooper May 15, 2015 at 11:07 AM

Kathryn kelly’s death dwellers series stating with misled and also inferno by kathryn kelly. This lady is truly an amazing talented writer who deserves more credit than she gets read her books you will love outlaw, and sloanne. Also loved the last riders series by jamie begley omg its like alpha male heaven and also the heart of stone series by d h sidebottom starts with incineration. These are my recommendations.

Mindi May 15, 2015 at 12:35 PM

OOOHHH—Hyde and Seek–this sounds like my next read!!!

Michelle F May 15, 2015 at 10:37 PM

I’ve loved so many that you and others have mentioned already. Pretty much any book by Kristen Ashley is an absolute one-click go-to for me, especially the Colorado Mountain series and the Chaos series. But I’ve been sucked in by a few other series cuz I love a good book binge! The Alluring Indulgence series by Nicole Edwards (love those Walker brothers), the Isthmus Alliance series by Sloan Johnson (some fun and interesting alpha kink), the Until series by Aurora Rose Reynolds (just straight up uber-alpha bossy hotness in those Mayson brothers), and the Beyond series by Kit Rocha (holy hell hotness where nothing is off limits it seems) are just a few more.

Judy May 16, 2015 at 12:21 AM

Where are the Mafia books?! I love love love those fictional Mafia men! My most recent was Blurred Lines by Jeniffer K. Brand. Davids is one alpha male! And speaking of the author? She wrote one awesome book and disappeared!

Anne May 16, 2015 at 2:58 AM

Is it wrong that I’ve only read one book by KA? I know, I know its a sin lol

Love this list btw! I also love alpha romance were the H is a CEO. I just love a man in a suit ;)

Maryse May 16, 2015 at 8:57 AM

It IS wrong, Anne. LOL!!! Must read more!!

Maryse May 16, 2015 at 9:16 AM

Carol that is SO cool! You must be so proud of her. Have you read her books yet?

Shell May 16, 2015 at 12:33 PM

Anne read ‘Hero’ by Samantha Young, this book will definitely be your perfect fix for CEO hero in designer suits. It’s a great book and I loved it.

Joan May 16, 2015 at 2:27 PM

Hi everyone

I’m a newbie to commenting but had to add an author who’s books I found are very alpha male but with loads of laughs. R L Mathewsons books neighbours from hell I think fits this category

Anne May 16, 2015 at 8:55 PM

Maryse promise to rectify that soon :) Seriously I don’t know why I haven’t read more books from her!

Shell I loved Hero! That’s the type of book that I really enjoy :D

Cheryl May 16, 2015 at 11:07 PM

Great list Maryse. Haven’t read the Kathleen Turner series yet. Want to, just a big commitment with the number of books.

Linda May 17, 2015 at 1:20 AM

Reading the Quantum trilogy by MS Force!! Loving it!! Just finished 1st book and cannot wait to dive into next one!!! The whole trilogy is complete!!! **HaPpY DaNcE**dominant movie star alert!!

Cheryl May 17, 2015 at 9:12 AM

Reading After The Rain. I have loved what Renee Carlino has written previously, but I’m having a hard time clicking with this one. Her writing style usually is smoother and so well-written. This one feels choppy and almost “amatuerish” in it’s writing. The story is good, but it just doesn’t have the feel to it like her previous books, at least not yet, I’m only at about 40% right now. :(

Eli May 17, 2015 at 7:31 PM

Have you guys read Project: Killer by J.L. Beck? I read it this weekend. It is awesome!

kim May 18, 2015 at 8:01 AM

The Walker Brothers! Nicole Edwards has all those sexy cowboys as alphas!

andrea May 18, 2015 at 2:02 PM

Remember “After Hours” by Cara McKenna…Kelly!

Claire May 18, 2015 at 3:38 PM

The consequences series by Aleatha Romiq!

Mindi May 19, 2015 at 8:22 AM

Just finished my 1st book by Lani Lynn Vale–LOVE!!!!
Really good alpha male–think I’ll go ahead and get the next book!

And–Hyde and Seek was REALLY good too!!

Shane May 19, 2015 at 4:14 PM

So many good books, so little time, aye!!!

Diana August 25, 2015 at 3:59 PM

I can’t stop smiling (and more often than not, laughing out loud). “A is for Alpha Male” by Laurel Curtis is so funny. I LOVE Haley and Alison as a dynamic duo. Their relationship gives me something to aim for with my own daughter.

I downloaded “A is for Alpha Male” because I was looking for a light funny read after “Ruthless (Dark MC Romance)” by Vanessa Waltz. Wow, dark doesn’t quite do it justice. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Ok, back to “A is for Alpha Male”…I’m only 25% through the book and I already miss Danny and Haley’s story…and it hasn’t even really started yet! A great homage to Kristen Ashley.

I expect this will be one of my favs.

Dani April 21, 2017 at 1:51 AM

Hi maryse

Im sorry if the issue is on my end but ive updated my app and refreshed everything and i dont know what else to do! I neeed your book recommendations…

Maryse April 21, 2017 at 5:46 AM

Hi Dani!

I just went to my Facebook page and clicked around on it, and it’s working, and then I clicked some links that link back directly to my page here (to various posts) and that’s working too. I used both my laptop and my phone Facebook app.

Can you give me a more details example, and then I’ll try it too, to see if we can find out…

Stacey January 30, 2018 at 3:45 PM
