R: I’m reading Beneath Your Beautiful, a debut by Emory Rose, and I’m loving it. It’s sitting at over 4.5 stars on GR, which is crazy high so I couldn’t resist.
  • The Ribbon Duet by Pepper Winters <— BACK ON THE LIST ’cause Bea LOVED this duet!
Bea: I have been a “lurker” on this blog for a while and have found many wonderful reads thanks to your insights . Today I must speak up and share my feelings about The Ribbon Duet. Never has an author caught me on a line like this before. Book one seemed sweet, but just a bit off, but just SO good!! Of course I had to buy book two! I was still a bit unsure, but by the middle of book 2, my heart had been ripped from my chest! I imagined it laying on the floor beating for one last gasp of blood, like a fish out of water. Never before has a book made me picture my internal organs. This is the highest praise I can imagine.
  • The Score (Off-Campus Book 3) by Elle Kennedy <— ELLE KENNEDY SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! This is one of my 5-STAR FAVORITES!!!! Don’t miss this one!!! In fact, here’s my review.
  • Not So Nice Guy by R.S. Grey <— RECENT RELEASE & WE HAVE FEEDBACK!!! Swoony ROM COM ALERT!! Jen C recommends it!!
Jen C: I finished Not So Nice Guy yesterday-ish and it was a really good, solid rom-com. I was swooning and chuckling the whole way through.
Jan: I loved the Seven series by Dannika Dark. Wolf shifters but it’s not all about the pnr – more about the people and their relationships and adventures.
  • Bright Side by Kim Holden <— ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES is super-bargain priced right now!!! This is an absolute MUST-READ (just ask anyone who’s read it!!!!) P.S. Here’s my review.

Veronica: My most epic read would have to be Bright Side by Kim Holden. …a book that stays within you for life.
Jean: …I’m broken on the inside, but it was just so beautiful. I loved every single character in Bright Side, but Kate…..well, she was inspiring and awesome and everyone should have someone like her in your life if possible! Her positivity was infectious with everyone she met! You couldn’t help but love her! Feeling like I have to move right onto Gus now because, well, ya know…. (BTW, I think I went through an entire box of tissues with this one)!
Tessa: I will say, if you can take heartbreak (Which you know I rarely do) read it. It’s one of those that just sticks and is so beautifully written, I actually don’t curse it.  *yes, I curse a LOT of the ones that make me cry*
Nay: Maryse! You NEED to read Gus. I loved it even more than Bright Side, probably *because* it was a ‘healing’ book. It was wonderful!

I know that there are a couple of you that have read and loved a few other books that the Ritchie sisters have written before… well, this may appeal to other types of readers as it is Sci-Fi in nature… but not fantastical, Last Hour of Gann type of Sci-Fi, I’m floating on a fluffy 5 star cloud.

Book Review – My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan

My Oxford Year: A Novel
OMG BEST BOOK EVER. Seriously I’m crying as I write this, but I am so absolutely in love with this love story, and I can’t believe my luck that I was able to experience it.

I chose it but vacillated. Suspecting – due to comments – that it was “one of those” books, hearing words like “ugly cry”, “sobbing” and all the warnings that come with “one of those” books – and I was second guessing myself. Was I up for all of that intensity and emotion? But I can promise you, I couldn’t be more delighted. I devoured this one. DE. VOURED.

Michele: This book was a 5 star fave for me!! It is one of “those” books but I thought it was done very well! So worth reading!!

Jennifer: So good!

Kari: This ended up being a book where “that thing that happens” was nowhere on my radar!!! It totally changed the story and made it so so good!

Andrea: Just finished this book. It was epic and amazing and I want more from this author! …I loved this book!

Amy: My Oxford Year (teacher-student drama!)… Oh, you KNOW My Oxford Year was an immediate click for me. I had seen buzz for it before it was released, but the price made me a bit hesitant. But as soon as I saw it was on sale…CLICK! 😀

Cheryl: My Oxford Year scares me; to be compared to Jo Jo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks and a “heartbreaking story.” Think I’ll wait for someone else to guinea pig it and let me know. *whispers I think it’s one of “those” books*

Maryse: That just makes me want to read it more. 😉

Yes I’m crying. I won’t tell you why!!!!

  • I could be devastated yet touched.
  • I could be crying of happiness <— I’m good at that too, ya know!

But everything… EVERYTHING I read in this book, I took straight to my heart. I experienced. I fretted. I laughed. I learned. Oh how I have learned. But in the BEST way.

I’d say this is a cross (feel-wise) between Nottinghill (one of my absolute FAVORITE movies) and … dare I say it? Me Before You (WARNING!!!! DO NOT consider the ending of that one in regards to THIS one – maybe… maybe not!!!! I said FEEL-wise, not spoiler-wise). I will NEVER do that. You have NO idea how this will end, as I didn’t, even if I had all sorts of suspicions due to reactions from fellow readers.

Amy: OH! By the way…about My Oxford Year. Finished it, and it was really, REALLY good. I didn’t cry (although I did get teary-eyed a couple of times) and the ending was bittersweet but lovely.

So what’s it about?

Word of warning: At first (first few chapters), I wondered if I’d be able to relate to the main character and if this story could hold my interest. She’s pretty much a super-woman (education-wise) and I was gearing up for a slightly “stuffy” atmosphere… but this is NONE of that, once the story gets rolling. P.S. All told from the heroine’s POV (YAY ME!!!)

Ella has received a highly coveted “Rhodes” (Rhodies?) position at Oxford University (I dunno the logistics of it all… just work with me here). LOL! What it means is that she’s been awarded an elite position to attend Oxford University in a certain study, etc.

“I work in politics. American politics. But this whole year for me is about pushing boundaries, and exploring new things, and basically just, like, leveling up. As a person?”

Ella is a competitive, self-starting, highly intelligent fighter that’s ready to take on the world, and while she’s headed straight for politics, her major at Oxford is Literature (and oh how I fell in love with it… the intro to every chapter is absolutely incredible. Read each one. Poetry that speaks to me, and leads you in… perfectly).

Anyway, all that to say, she has a pretty appalling start when she runs into – in the worst of ways – a rowdy (yet super-sexy) man that’s full of pomp and circumstance. Or better defined… he’s a “posh prat”. 😛

He smiles charmingly at the group and everyone responds with an appreciative chuckle.

Except for me. I can’t respond. I’m too busy having my world reordered.
The new professor is the posh prat.

But then she soon realizes (when she starts her courses) that he’s her professor. Ugh (for her) and YAYYYYYY!!! (for me… the reader… that just LOVES this kind of thing). 😉 Also a professor with quite the randy reputation with his students. Let’s just say things of this nature are more liberal in Britain.

“Jamie Davenport’s a legend,” Maggie says, eyes wide. “The road between Oxford and Cambridge is positively littered with broken hearts.”

Charlie considers this. “More like dropped knickers. The man invented the three-date rule.”

“So just be careful there,” Maggie says.

And of course, the attraction between them is undeniable, but since she plans to return to the US in just a few months, and well… he’s just not the type to settle down,

I cut him off at the pass. “Students are off-limits?”

He pauses. “Actually, technically no.” He looks up and grins at me. “Unlike some, Britain is not a nation of Puritans when it comes to matters of carnality between two consenting adults.”

I smile at him. “You’re not looking for a relationship?”

He takes a step back into my room, sighing. “That would be it. Quite.”

…they settle into a “friends with benefits” situation.

He considers my hand, tempted. But shakes his head instead. “I still don’t think it’s a good idea.”

“Don’t think, Professor. Feel.”

But oh how things change as they attempt to keep their emotions in check.

Why does this hurt so much? “Wow,” I hear myself say. “It’s a good thing I don’t love you.”

ROOOOOOOOAAR!!!! Yeah. The fury I felt. There were a few roars from me… for both of them.

And then, you know… other stuff is revealed. Secret stuff. That’s right. I won’t tell you.

There are choices to make. Life choices. Goals, opportunities and new reveals that don’t quite mix. But mix the two of them, with her family (and past), his family (and past), the new friends she’s made at Oxford (each one is TOTALLY believable… they seem so real – with mini side-stories of their own), and you will experience an unputdownable, absolutely amazing story that will have you feeling from start to finish. Feeling good? Feeling bad? Elated? Sad?

My lips are sealed.

This book is just SO smart. So… everything.

5 STARS PLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! <— PLEASE DO. NOT. MISS. THIS!!!!!!! And did I mention it’s going to be a movie? Yes. It’s THAT GOOD and I will totally watch it. BUT READ THE BOOK FIRST. You know it will be even better.

Melinda: I just have to share. I am reading a book so good, let me emphasise soo good. I dont know how I have never read it before. Nay recommended it for me. It’s called ARSEN. I can’t do anything this book is consuming me. Everyone needs to read Arsen if they haven’t read it already.

Melinda: WHY DIDNT YOU GRAB ME EARLIER AND TELL ME HOW GOOD IT WAS. GREY,YOU EVEN HAD A PFM AND DIDNT PICK IT. I really thought, I had read it. But no, I’ve never read this book. Yes, she does have the most gorgeous husband. And I want to take her down.
Maryse: OMG YAYYYYYY!! Another Arsen addict. Doesn’t matter WHEN that book was released, it still has THAT effect on those that just read it for the first time. I LOVE THAT!!!!!!!
Melinda: 10 big stars.. To be honest. It has been mentioned a lot. But I was sure I had read it. But no, I hadn’t. Thank you Nay.  I think I was pulling my hair out at the end. Or I was going to punch Cathy out. And Grey, you must have mentioned 10 times how good it was. That’s exactly my kind of book. I just have to listen more closely next time. Still love ya.

  • The Consequences Series Box Set by Aleatha Romig <— DARK READ ALERT!!! LOOKIT WHAT I JUST ONE-CLICKED!!! Aleatha Romig’s entire “Consequences” series is BUNDLED & SUPER-BARGAIN priced right now!!! Lots of love/hate for one of the main characters in this series, so beware. 😉 I read the first two, and I was incensed!! I didn’t finish the series (even though I was hooked – it’s addictive) but maybe now I’m ready…

Grey: Consequences is not for the faint of heart… a strong constitution is needed… I threw my kindle at one point *blush*
Leslie M: Man, I wish I had a BR for when I read Consequences. That series gave me ulcers. (in a good way) … As much as I loved Consequences series, I have never read Beyond the Consequences book #5. Got to put on the big girl panties for this one.
Tessa: I read Consequences. (Boy was I swearing a blue streak at Tony!) …Consequences… I never forgave him. LOVED the series, but I never forgave him. I’m weird like that. I may hate the H/h but still love the book.
Anne: I loved the Consequences series! It was so so amazing! Highly recommend it!
Sharon: I have been devouring the Consequences series. I forgot who recommended it (THANK YOU) – but after book 1, I am hooked – and maybe even like Tony a teeny tiny bit.
Leslie M: It’s funny because when I read Consequences series I not only ignored my family, but I couldn’t sleep or eat or bathe. 😉
Cristina: I spent the weekend with the Consequences series. Definitely one of the most mentally and emotionally taxing reading experiences of my life. It was the most unpredictable love story I have ever read. This series shocked me and twisted my tummy over, and over, and over again. I say “love story” lightly. This series is not for the faint at heart. If you like an easy love story or an easy hero/heroine, run far, far away from this series. Is it dark? The first book yes. But after that, it was more emotional than anything else. I would call it a psych thriller. One quality I look for in my hero, in a dark series, is redemption. That’s what makes it a love story for me. It’s here, but it doesn’t come easy. I wasn’t sure after book #1 it was even possible for me, by Romig’s superior writing got me there. This series is going to stay with me for a while. These kinds of feels don’t go away easily. It’s time for a glass of wine and a light read. Phew! I’m brushing the sweat off of my forehead. Well done Aleatha Romig! Well done indeed!

But a book shop/tattoo studio might be the ticket for both Emmie and Ox to find success on their own terms. As long as they keep their attention focused on business. Just on business…”

  • Blood Type (Blood Type Book 1) by K.A. Linde <— K.A. LINDE VAMPIRE ROMANCE SUPER-BARGAIN!!! (Tessa enjoyed this one!!) “…A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.”
Tessa: If you want to read Blood Match, you HAVE to read Blood Type first. The first was really good, so I’m hoping the second is even half that.  :D
Theresa: I am sending this email to recommend Kathleen Brooks’ stories.  I just started reading her books this year.  The Forever Bluegrass series have been fun and really good.  The completed Web of Lies series is quite apropos given the current political climate.

Maryse: I read her “The Husband’s Secret” and it TOO hd multiple POV’s but they were SO warranted, since they all culminate into the WHOLE story once the end is revealed… even the strangers. So multiple POVs work and make things so gooooood…
Ela:  I read my husband’s secret and it was super angsty and twisty! There are lots of turns and characters…
