Book Review – The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

The Hating Game: A Novel
One of my all time favorite genres (that I keep forgetting that I love THIS much, until I read one!). LOL! A perfect mix between “they absolutely hate each other” and potential “office romance” and this one had me grinning from ear to ear by the time I hit the end.

It was just a fun, well-written comedy romance that had me laughing heartily, while still feeling all the good stuff that goes with a somewhat slow burn romance book. Nothing too angsty, although maybe the near-end shebang was a bit over the top (and risky!) but still, I REALLY loved these characters! And to make it even more fun for me? It’s told COMPLETELY from her POV and I LOVE THAT!!!!! I could totally immerse myself. Become her and worry and stress and balk with her. And swoon and wonder and hope, with her. read more

Swear on This Life: A Novel
Holy moly what a clever premise!!! It was like reading a book within a book, and I was hooked from the getgo, and could barely put it down!

Lisa: We could read Renee Carlino’s new one Swear on This Life (which I cannot wait to read!!).

R. Renee: I’m excited about I Swear on This Life. I have 5 days to heal before Swear on This Life kicks my butt. Maryse are you reading that one early?

OK this is it! The moment you wait for after the second book of the series because the way it ended almost made me scream! OK… I did scream a little. I know, I know… it had to be loud or else it is not a scream right? *wink* Was I ever lucky to have the 3rd book already in my Kindle!!! Oh Hell yes! Ha ha ha

It is the book where everything falls into place and I was beaming because, it is about REVENGE! Do I need to say more? Not only Heather Hildenbrand gives us satisfaction in giving Ven what she wanted and worked so hard for, but she straightens a few other wrongs as well! Felt soooo good all the way to the last page, to the last line… that last sentence creating goose bumps on my forearms as it is a universal truth… and we DO need to be reminded. read more

Book Review – Anything but Minor by Kate Stewart

Anything but Minor
Fun and sweet and laugh-out-loud hilarious! And I mean FUNNY!!!!! This is the kind of book that will have you snorting and chortling, scene after scene, out loud, right in front of people, strange looks be damned! While I was mostly in it for the romance, it was the absolutely the comedy that had me hooked and it lasts for the whole first half.

The initial “meet-cute” between the two main characters, to just us (the reader) getting to know the heroine, even when she’s alone in her apartment, she’s just a lighthearted, positive, silly goof (in a good way!!!) that endeared her to me. I could see myself in her. From her struggle with swearing – unless she was REALLY mad, that is – which only made it funnier, to her awkward public er… snafus… read more

The Promise of Stardust: A Novel
OMG what a premise!!!! This one had me in knots and infuriated and choking on my own flabbergastment <— Okay yeah not a word but… you get the picture. I was incensed and devastated and while I could technically “understand” the two sides of this incredibly heartbreaking, unfair situation, in my mind, the answer was clear, and I couldn’t even believe we could possibly be debating this!!!!

But… there’s always room for debate, and in a case like this, the opinions are vehement and I have no doubt, in real life, the opposition would be just as intense. read more
