Slave (Finding Anna)
Here is another book that, once upon a time, had me hesitating, worried that perhaps it might be *too dark* for me. Well… that was before. When I was still in my “dark reads” closet. But the sequel to this book shall be released any day now, and when the publisher sent me both of them for review purposes a couple of weeks ago, I was excited. Nervous, but anxious for an unusual thrilling read. I read them both over the weekend, and surprisingly, they are really not dark at all (well, at least in comparison to Captive in the Dark and the like).

Book Review – Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas
Comfort Food
Okay, I’m taking us on a “dark reading ride” this week. With my recent Captive in the Dark “coming out” party, and my weekend “Slave/Need” reading marathon, I figured I’d go all out. ‘Cause you see, I’ve been carrying around a couple of dirty little reading secrets, and by the response I received for the “Captive” review, I see so many of you have, too. We really kind of like these reads, don’t we? 😉
Captive in the Dark was one of them, but THIS one was my first. I read this back in 2010!! I wasn’t anywhere near the BDSM reading genre, or anything of the sort. I was still in my full vampire reading frenzy when a friend recommended this one. She knew it was a risk (I was still “innocent” you see) but I think, after she saw my complete acceptance of Vishous and his own “kidnapping/BDSM propensity” with a few of those similar Stockholm syndrome themes, she recognized the possibility that I might enjoy this one. Warning me it would stay with me for days, and I’d be in perpetual confusion over my love/hate relationship with it, but because of that, she just had to tell me about it.

Captive in the Dark: The Dark Duet (Volume 1)
I read this… back in December of 2011! After reading and loving Christian Grey, I was adamantly looking for more “like him”. Back when I was fairly “new” to the darker side of books. Well, I mean… I’m quite familiar with horror novels. Love them even. But this is a different kind of scary. Has all of the elements of a thriller (secretly stalking a young woman, kidnapping her, emprisoning her, and training her to be a submissive. A slave, even, for eventual sale.) Scary right!!??
Book Review – Stolen by Lucy Christopher
Stolen
Whoa. This is a tough one. Really tough. It’s tough to review, because I don’t want to give anything away. Tough, also because this, well… I guess it might not be for everyone. In fact, I glared at my husband a few times when he asked me how I was liking it. Not because I wasn’t liking it, but because I was a mess. Where was this going to go? Why were my feelings so jumbled. Would I be satisfied with the outcome? My reactions were all over the place.
But there’s a thing that’s easy for me, and that’s gauging how much I liked, or loved a book. My fundamental reaction to it. And this one. EASY. I reacted deeply. I LOVED it. In fact, there were a few sob-worthy moments. I won’t bother to tell you anything about them, but just to let you know, I was so overwrought at times, that I just stared. Lump in my throat, pain in my chest, tears threatening to spill. But I just stared.
Book Review – Crow’s Row by Julie Hockley
Crow’s Row
Another book, another winner! And I know it’s a winner because I’ve been in a stupor all day. Moping. I’ve been thinking about these characters, rehashing scenes, using my own “imagination” for a few *ahem* (hee hee!!), laughing to myself over a specific ruined Maserati scene. I’ve been speculating… daydreaming if you will, about the upcoming second book, allllll day. I’ve been trying to discuss the book with my husband, dropping little scene hints, hoping that he’d indulge me, and finally ask me to tell him alllllll about it..
