HAPPY NEW RELEASE TUESDAY!!!! Quite a few of our big huge favorites just had new book releases over the last 24 hours (like that one there to the left). 😉 Christina Lauren, J.R. Ward, Jewel E. Ann, Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland, Shay Savage, J.A. Huss and more!
Annnnnnd… we’re currently having an “Epoch buddy read” with one of ’em!!! Tee hee. See what I did there? We’re SO into the Transcend duet (love triangle and it’s now complete!!!):

Ashley: I JUST finished Transcend and … oh. my. goodness! I’m going to be at work all day tomorrow thinking about it and waiting until I can read Epoch. This is one of those books where you don’t realized you’ve stopped breathing. It just grabs you and pulls you right in. I couldn’t put it down! THIS is why I love books.
MichelleS: Finished Transcend. Just WOW. Going straight into Epoch. Blind. Didn’t even read your blurb up there!
Kandace: I’m so excited for the second Jewel E Ann book. I’ve been on a reading high this week.

  • Ride by Harper Dallas <— Kandace LOVED it!

Kandace: I read Ride by Harper Dallas yesterday. I stayed up to 3 AM reading because I couldn’t stop reading. I was so captivated by their story. The secondary characters were amazing. I hope they get their own books. I really thought this was going to be a typical sports romance trope. The story was a lot more emotional than I was expecting. I can’t believe this the author’s debut novel. I felt like I was on the slopes with the team!!

Ali: Omg the Boy and His Ribbon! I bawled you guys. It’s not the usual dark read Pepper Winters puts out, but it’s so so much feels. My heart couldn’t take it, book 2 I need you ASAP! This will definitely be in my top 10 reads this year already.
Jen C: It’s A Place in the Sun by R.S. Grey – I’m reading this one at the moment (80% in). And it’s a Bed and Breakfast, not a diner! IT’S SO GOOD. This author has totally become a must read for me, I’m just going through some of her back catalogue whenever I’m in the mood for a RomCom.

Book Review – Beautiful Victim by Claire C. Riley

Beautiful Victim: [THE] must-read thriller of the year.
<— Yeah. This one took me some time to come down from before I could right the review. Not because I didn’t love it. But because I was so… distraught. Lost. I needed to snuggle with sweetness. 😉

But you know me. I love my psych-thrillers, and this is one of those!!! Are you in the mood for dark? I’ve got your dark, right here. And I brought it to my Facebook crew…

Maryse: Oooooof. I just finished a reallllllly dark book. Along the lines of “You” but without any of the quirky humor. Darker, even. I’m so frustrated and exhausted.

But I will NEVER forget it. Stalker, psych-thrillers with delusional villains entice me. But oh how I need a few hours of relief before I write this review. Trust me… it’s insidious in how “lightly dark” it is, but in reality, how dark it really is.

Rebecca: Cool, I look forward to your review, I’ve had my eye on this! I loved her zombie books she co-wrote with Madeline Sheehan, I’ve yet to read her own.

A. Meredith Walters: My FAVOURITE book this year!!! I’m so stoked you read it!

All I can say is HOLY. MOLY. When you’re in the mood for something, and you get it… and then so much more, that by the end you’re drained, devoured, and depressed… yet slightly delighted (I said SLIGHTLY!!! You can’t be GREATLY delighted by these kind of books can you? CAN YOU???!!! LOL!!!) but that said, if you can handle the dark emotions, and that kind of pressure, this one brings it.

This is going to be with us both forever. There is no running from this horrible, horrible thing. It binds us together.

Her and me. Me and the blood.

But it’s the right thing. In my heart I know that.

I look away from the body and down at my shaking hands. Hands I don’t recognize as my own.

Whose hands are these that can do so much damage?

Who is this person that destroys without hesitation?

I don’t know who I am anymore. Maybe that’s okay.

I didn’t like who I was anyway.

Again, I NEED TO REPEAT THIS: it’s insidious in how “lightly dark” it is, but in reality, how dark it really is.

It catches you off guard, in fact.

Dripping from the ceiling. I swim in the blood. I can smell it. I can taste it. She laughs because it means she’s free. I cower because it will destroy us.

You think he’s just a sweet, innocent, lovesick boy man that finds his high-school sweetheart again. The one, the ONLY one that he was able to completely connect to. In fact, the first one, and somehow, he imprinted HARD on her. But she was his home… and HE was HER salvation.

We were the imperfect ones. The ones that didn’t fit in.

Her, with her lice-riddled hair and abusive father.

Me, with my overbearing mother, hard-working father, and my own obsessive nature.

We were perfect in our imperfectness.

They were bonded so young, for so long, and then one day… she was gone.
Both from difficult childhood situations, neighbor children that become best friends, and while he thinks he’s lacking parental love, he sees through her, what true parental abandonment looks like. She’s suffering. Starving. Infested. Alone. And he takes her on as his pet project, bonding with her as they grow into adulthood.

I couldn’t tell you why I fell in love with Carrie Brown. It could have been because she was beautiful and broken. Or it could have been that she knew I was weird but told me it was okay to be so. Carrie made me feel accepted and understood. She made me feel both normal and weird. And she made me feel that either was okay.

Love is a strange thing. You don’t even know that it’s happening until it’s happened, and you’re ten feet deep in a puddle of love that makes you smile for the first time in a long time.

But after a grisly situation finds him incarcerated for years, and her… missing in action. His whole life changes forever. And yet, he’s still fully obsessed with her.

Then one day, by complete chance, in his very controlled, meager life… he sees her. And his whole world lights up again. He will take back what’s his and he will never let it go again…

I’m shocked that I just saw Carrie. After all these years.

I think of all the perhapses of today. And yes, I know that’s not a real word, but the realness of words doesn’t matter right now. All that matters is Carrie and the fact that she is here and she’s alive. All that matters is that I have found her when I thought she was lost to me forever.

And this is that story. Who’s the victim and who’s the villain? Well, for awhile it’s obvious… and then, not so much. Things…. change. Perceptions (while mostly ONLY via her POV) give you a good idea of his mid frame and where it all stems from as his life is revealed, it’s when she finally comes into action, that so much more comes to light.

I think of how happy she’ll be to see me again. Despite the fact that she ran away and hid herself.

From me?

I still wonder.

Did she run from me?

Or did she run from the memories?

*blink blink*

This book is exactly what I believe these true-life stalker obsessions stem from, lead to… and where they ultimately culminate.

4 stars <— I loved it, even if I cringe saying that. It’s intense devotion. Determination. Devastation. It’s horrid. It’s darker than dark, even thought it leads you “there” so gently you don’t even realize you’re being boiled alive.

Until it’s too late.

“I feel sick because you’re here.”

“What?” I say. And it’s not very polite of me. I should have said “pardon” or “excuse me,” but I didn’t because I am so shocked that she said that.

“I want you to leave, Ethan,” she says. “Get out!”

And What a f**king bitch, I think.

*gulp*

  • Hydraulic Level 5 (The Hydraulic Series Book 1) by Sarah Latchaw <— OLDIE BUT GOODIE!!!! R IS LOVING IT & now there may be a buddy-read going on!

R: Hydraulic Level 5 by Sarah Latchaw. This book is flipping awesome. The cover and title are terrible as far as romance is concerned. I NEVER would have picked it up because it sounds sci-fi or adventure-y, but one of my FB peeps was adamant to the point of threatening to buy it for me. It’s about childhood best friends who fall in love, get married, and then he leaves her when she’s only 21 to find himself/pursue his dreams etc (not clear on that yet). The book picks up where he’s coming back to town for his sister’s wedding (the h’s bff) and he’s now a famous author, *and* he’s bringing his editor/gf with him. Oh the angst! It’s one big heartache wrapped in really clever humor.
Cheryl: R. I read Hydraulic Level 5 when it was a fanfic. Loved it then and agree that the title is terrible.

I’m not sure if you have read them or not !!? It had so many shocking moments , romance , angst , rock stars !!! Everything. !!!!! If you haven’t read these you must read them!!!! Nay: I’m loving the What He Doesn’t Know duet, even though it’s making feel like I want to punch someone (if I don’t get whiplash first)! I’m halfway through the second book

Sky: It’s one of the best book and ultimate read of 2018 so far. It was a utterly shocking yet Pleasant Surprise. I LOVED REN Wild and His DELLA RIBBON. The book gave a whole new dimension to the word “FORBIDDEN”. You must read it!!
  • A is for Alpha Male by Laurel Curtis <— KRISTEN-ASHLEY FEEL & IT’S ANOTHER OLDIE BUT GOODIE!!!

Diana: I can’t stop smiling (and more often than not, laughing out loud). “A is for Alpha Male” by Laurel Curtis is so funny. I LOVE Haley and Alison as a dynamic duo. Their relationship gives me something to aim for with my own daughter.I downloaded “A is for Alpha Male” because I was looking for a light funny read after “Ruthless (Dark MC Romance)” by Vanessa Waltz.  Wow, dark doesn’t quite do it justice. Definitely not for the faint of heart.  Ok, back to  “A is for Alpha Male”…I’m only 25% through the book and I already miss Danny and \ Haley’s story…and it hasn’t even really started yet!  A great homage to Kristen Ashley. I expect this will be one of my favs.

  • Drive by Kate Stewart <— HOLY MOLY SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!!! MY BEST OF 2017 & it’s super-bargain priced!! Super angsty-romance that will infuriate and delight you!! 😉 And here’s my review (I gave it 5-STARS PLUS!)

Teri: Just finished “Drive” oh my… I need a hug. I need a martini. I feel like I was hit by a Mack truck and now what am I going to read… Holy Me Oh My Oh, what a great, great, great, great, great (that’s 5-greats) book. When I first saw it popping up on this blog I thought ‘maybe’ but the gushing just never ended and I’m SO happy I jumped in on the “Drive” train. Thanks everyone for all great suggestions & gushes :-) .Off to find my Martini. Just a little dirty.

  • Lock & Key by Cat Porter <— OLDIE-BUT-GOODIE BIKER BOOK! Nay is into it!
Nay: I finally read Lock and Key, the biker book by Cat Porter that’s been on my tbr for years, and I loved it! Lots of yummy, sexy biker brooding and grit without being over the top. And now I’m moving on to the next one.
  • Limits by Susie Tate <— SHE’S SEVERELY RECLUSIVE… “…When she watches him she wishes she could be normal; she wishes she could be like the people he interacts with so seamlessly. Pavlos Martakis is her complete and total opposite: physically intimidating, likable, naturally attractive, extremely confident, sexually promiscuous: the most uninhibited, charming, outgoing and free person she has ever encountered in her life. He fascinates Millie; thrills and intimidates her in equal measure…” And Fiona LOVED it!

Fiona: I was waiting on it for a few months to come out & it was released with us in the UK yesterday. Yes I read quickly!!Its about a radiologist in a UK hospital & the relationships she has with her co-workers & with one senior doctor in particular Pav who begins to see a different side to her & starts to pursue her.
Its funny, sad, heartbreaking to think of for what Millie has gone through & very thought provoking and a great read.
This is the second book in this series but the characters in it are all in the previous book “Beg, Borrow or Steal” so its great to see them all back & see the relationship develop here with Millie & Pav. You will laugh at the the little girl Rosie & her collection of insects that she collects as a hobby!!
There is a lot of medical jargon in this ebook but I must say that the author who I believe is a doctor herself does not make it too high brow & again puts a funny slant to it.I find it funny myself coming from a medical background myself and can relate to the different scenarios.
There is an oveall arch to the book about how anxiety & social isolation can impact on a person especially with the upbringing that the heroine Millie had. Everyone sees her as an odd ball in her work but if you peel back the layers & get to know her you will see her as Pav does & realises that there is so much more to her and that she is worth so much more then what she thinks of herself…
Cant wait to read the next book out from this author….absolutely fab!

LisaKay: I wanted to let you know Bink Cummings new book came out in the Texas MC series “Hopelessly Devoted”. Great author, that has a KA feel she is one of those that I automatically one click on her books!

Dina: OMG !OMG! OMG! Maryse you have to read Music of the Heart next!!! It is by far the BEST book I have read in a long time!
