Book Review – Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas

I decided on this one when a certain paranormal book I was anxious to get to wasn’t completely hooking me. I’ve been having a difficult reading week since reading Sylvia Dare’s Bared to You (flitting from one book to the next, not fully connecting with anything), and when this series was brought to my attention, I thought it just might do!

  • Tons of great reviews: check!
  • My own fellow readers vehemently recommending it: check!
  • Contemporary romance series with a bad boy kick: check!
  • Fellow readers each claiming one of the books as their their favorite in the series (and all three of the books were named): check!

It looked promising! And as I tried my hardest to connect to a paranormal book I had just started, this one kept calling me. Not that my paranormal was bad (it wasn’t, and I’ve been told it, too, is amazing), I just needed something more “real” to help get over my “Bared to You” hump. read more

Book Review – Stolen by Lucy Christopher

Whoa. This is a tough one. Really tough. It’s tough to review, because I don’t want to give anything away. Tough, also because this, well… I guess it might not be for everyone. In fact, I glared at my husband a few times when he asked me how I was liking it. Not because I wasn’t liking it, but because I was a mess. Where was this going to go? Why were my feelings so jumbled. Would I be satisfied with the outcome? My reactions were all over the place.

But there’s a thing that’s easy for me, and that’s gauging how much I liked, or loved a book. My fundamental reaction to it. And this one. EASY. I reacted deeply. I LOVED it. In fact, there were a few sob-worthy moments. I won’t bother to tell you anything about them, but just to let you know, I was so overwrought at times, that I just stared. And here it is… friends. Time for me to say again, “We fooooound it!!! We foooooooound it!!!” Yep. We found it. What, exactly did we find?

Weren’t some of you asking me what to read after Fifty Shades? Hrmmmm? Were you? Well. This. Is. IT!! We found it. And now I know… I know. Nothing compares to Fifty. That was our biggest problem, wasn’t it? We’ve found many “similar” books in regards to the subject matter. Some had large elements of BDSM in it, some had the “contract” with the rich, gorgeous tycoon uninterested in love. And some had none of that… just a ton of 5-star intensity that we could easily become addicted to. But none had it all. None of them were quite… “What to read after Fifty.” They were good options, but not perfect. read more

Okay… listen. These books are like potato chips to me. I can’t have just one. In fact, I just devoured the “second bag”  errr… I mean book, in one sitting. Again. Like I did with book #1. Problem is, I’m outta “Valerie Dearborn chips” and the problem with that is, after I’m done devouring, I just mope. And pout. I sit there, just remembering that delicious crunch! Well, to be fair,  I didn’t mope at all when I finished book #1. Nope. The author had sent me the second one. I still had a whole book to read!! I felt like I ruled the world yesterday!! I still had a WHOLE OTHER bag of chips, and since that first bag was so good, it just left me wanting more!!! read more

Book Review – Love is Darkness by Caroline Hanson

Love is Darkness (A Valerie Dearborn Novel)
I finished this one with a smile on my face. LOVED every minute of it. Never got bored, and never put it down. Nope. Start to finish I devoured it. AND!! I felt all of the emotion and turmoil and apprehension and… *ahem* other stuff  😉 as the story progressed. The connections intensified, the course of events were realistic (well.. hehe. As realistic as a world with vampires can be…), and ummm.. you know. There’s plenty of steamy in here. This is NOT YA. BUT!! The “steamy scenes” teased!! BIG TIME. Quite detailed… and yet… left you wanting more. Another series where the reader is tantalized plenty, and things are not just “we’re-already-in-love” handed to you. read more
