Anne: I say start with Kingdom of Dreams Maryse. Love that book so much!

Tessa: Kingdom of Dreams was so good. I fell in love with that book and went through two paperbacks of it.

Lauren: Once and Always is another one that is so awesome….it’s about a different couple but set in the same time period & location.

Jenn: My prized book is an autographed copy of Once and Always personally autographed to me by Judith McNaught.

  • Unbroken: Understood, Overheard and Undenied by Maya Banks <— MAYA BANKS SUPER-BARGAIN ALERT!! “All three of Maya Banks’s sexy novellas combined into one volume!”
  • Prisoned: A Dark Twisted Erotic Standalone by Marni Mann <— DARK READ ALERT!! SHE’S BEEN KIDNAPPED… I’ve been told this one is pretty unputtdownable!! Nancy found it for us as a super-bargain sale, I know my friend Kandace LOVED it, and Jean says: “I’m at 50%. Intriguing and hoping my predictions are wrong so it will throw me for a loop!“
     

Happy NEW RELEASE DAY!!! It’s also the last big release day of November, but no worries. Next week promises to kick of December with some major book-oomph!!! 😀 80+ to pick and choose from today (some for every romance mood, whether you’re in the mood for a sweet love story, or a heart wrenching one… or even a creepy dark one), and I’ve found a few that look great to me!

What looks extra-good? Here are the ones that gave me a blurb jolt: That one there to the left, To Capture What We Cannot Keep (seems like it will have that epic love feel, with all of the hardships of social class disparity – she’s poor and he’s wealthy… you know how it goes, but it sounds poignant!) and Road to Paradise (PAULLINA SIMONS!!! And this one sounds like a thriller of sorts. Two girlfriends go on a road trip, but pick up a hitchhiker, and she pulls them into her terrifying world. eek GASP!!!). And… Dauntless (actually that’s book #3, I want to start from the beginning ’cause THAT premise had my heart in a lurch right off the bat. It sounds so good ’cause it’s a paranormal about a couple that wanted to have a baby SO bad), and Wordless sounds like a dark romance, and I’ve never read (or watched) the original fairytale that this is a twist on, but it sounds right up my alley), Fire in You (I LOVE this author, and I love the whole bad-boy MMA fighter premise, which is what I *think* this is about), Tracing the Stars (sounds like it will be a fun love/hate romance between two people that are trying to stay away from each other in a very small space… LOL!! I loved THIS part: “…they make a conscious effort to stay away from each other. Which is a hard thing to do when you’re stuck inside of a glorified igloo with only forty-three other people…”), and You Make Me Weak (because I love a good romance-potential with a no-nonsense brooding cop that wants nothing to do with getting close to people). :D!!! YAY ME!!!!

Antonella: Totally agree with Bad Romeo/Broken Juliet by Leisa Rayven, the angst in that book was off the Richter scale and you just could not put the book down.

Nay: I’ll also chime in about Bad Romeo/Broken Juliet–I FLOVED them! They were two of my top ten reads of 2015 (cause that’s when I read them).

Leslie: Anyone who hasn’t read Bad Romeo/Broken Juliet needs to get on it!!! It was awesome, swoony read. Highly recommend!!!
Anne: I think I am starting Wicked Heart next. I simply love Leisa Rayven and her angsty books.

Grey: The Beautiful Series is one of my very favorite series ever…so this is very bittersweet for me, knowing it’s the end of an era now. The writing team of Christina Lauren are such a package of awesome, wrapped in amazing and heavily dusted in fairy glitter. They’re like a unicorn… The way they write so seemlessly together, it’s truly magical. I’m going to miss this cast of characters something fierce. The ending for our Bastard, Bitch, Player, Stranger, Secret, Beginning, Beloved, Bombshell, Boss and yes, Beautiful… Was, well, it was poignant, a true full circle. If you haven’t read this series and enjoy well-written new adult stories with a healthy dose of humor, complex characters, hot smut and some angst…look no further! Beautiful (the book) gets 4.5 stars for the beginning and the ending alone. I really enjoyed the seamless integration of past characters into Jensen and Pippa’s story while giving them a tale of their own. Definitely not a standalone!!! I sense a book hangover coming on!

Lisa: Just finished Beautiful and it was the perfect conclusion to that series. I’m going to miss that group. And can I just say. ..the Christina Lauren duo are bloody well Grand Pohbahs of contemporary romance…..their characters are so well developed and given so much depth the reader ‘knows’ them…..their likes, dislikes, idiosyncrasies, humor…..and the authors maintain the depth in the characters across every book…no one fades into the background. Loved it all.

Happy Cyber Monday my friends!!! A few earlybird book releases have graced us with their presence, and some super SUPER book sales to rejoice in (a few that I’ve read and loved, and a few recent releases that sound SO one-click worthy).

Book Review – Too Late by Colleen Hoover

HOLY MOLY that was stressful!!! The entire book… from start to finish had me on the edge of my seat, my stomach churning with nerves, and adrenaline coursing through my body, as I lived the slowly building nightmare with Sloan. A panic attack inducer for sure. Yet another one from Colleen Hoover that had me pacing and trying to catch my breath at 2am.

Pia: Asa, the hero, is just so bad – I mean really really bad in a bad way. I cannot say it often enough – read it read it read it :-)

Tasha: I read Too Late also and loved it, I need to catch myself up on her new chapters! I actually like Asa even though he is really bad. Lol

Maryse: I’m still reading and LOVING Colleen Hoover’s latest “Too Late“. It has me on EDGE!!!! I’m so scared, and it IS dark-ish (but so far, not too over-the-top). Definitely different for this author, but it does still totally has her writing style and character “feel” and story flow. But the way it’s different for her is that it “goes there” (language, sex, and very difficult scenes and a very dark lifestyle). This is full on danger, and I’m SO into it. Psych-thriller for sure (but intense romance or love story brewing). I just don’t know if it will end well. Which I love!! ;)

Maryse: Tasha, yes Too Late is hooking me good!!!

Definitely a psych-thriller/love story, which, when done right, always manages to hook me hard! My two favorite genres in one, in fact. It makes the thrill ride even that more intense when your emotions are involved. When a character’s mind is warring with her heart over what’s happening, what should be done, and the dangerous predicament she finds herself in. The author eases us into a general malaise as our heroine struggles with her love for her boyfriend, and her disgust with his illegal lifestyle, all the while, building us into a crescendo of chaos and turmoil and dread.

And tops it off with a twist or two that had my jaw dropping, and me face palming thinking OH NO!! NOOOOO HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN??!! *gasp* eek <— Oh yes. I gasped.

The feel? It’s that… “college aged bad-guys” feel, and all the crude lifestyle, and bad attitude that goes along with it (you know the kind… the feel – not the actual story – was reminiscent of Corrupt, and other bully-type books like that). To me, this was definitely a bully book. No doubt about it!!!

So what’s it about?

Sloan’s entire world revolves around the guy she had been crushing on in her college history class, first by choice (when he told her he had been crushing on her, too) but eventually, by force, when she realizes that his love for her is bordering on obsession.  And he’s become her own personal prison warden.

Having been forced to raise her twin brothers (with disabilities) from a young age, Sloan never had boyfriends, dates, not even a first kiss. So her whole world is turned upside down (her naivety in full force here) when the college bad boy, Asa, that EVERYONE seems to respect, (even the teachers) sets his sights on her. He’s confident, cocky and so intense. He simply rules his world and everyone in it.

He wants to take care of her. And Sloan is ripped from her secure and innocent life into his dangerous whirlwind.

As many promises as he’s made me that he’s scaling down the business in preparation to get out, I know he won’t. I’ve tried to talk some sense into him, but when you’ve got the power in your hands and the money in your pocket, it’s hard to walk away. He’ll never walk away.

At first she’s delighted, and flattered, and head-over-heels in love with him. Despite his chilling intensity, his vulnerability calls to her.

…he has his faults. In fact, his looks may be the only thing about him I don’t find fault in. He’s cocky, quick-tempered, hard to handle sometimes. But he loves me. He loves the hell out of me. be lying if I said I didn’t love him in return. There are so many things I would change about him if I could, but right now he’s all I have, so I deal with it. He brought me in when I had nowhere else to go. No one else to turn to.

She knows he’s hurting, emotionally. His fierce love for her and neediness, blinds her to his “bad side” and she just wants to love him with her whole heart.

I attempt to pull my hands out from beneath his, but he squeezes them tighter, reminding me that I’m nothing more than a prisoner in my own bed, and he’s the warden of the bedroom. Asa has always had a way of making me feel like my body was at his disposal. He’s never mean or forceful about it; he’s just needy— and I find it really inconvenient.

But her naivety is clearing out, her innocence is lost and her eyes are wide open now.

“Sloan?”

“Yeah?” she whispers.

“I won’t let him hurt you.”

And THIS is how it starts. 😉

Now it wasn’t my “perfect” Colleen Hoover read, but mostly just for the more… “freestyle” feel of the writing and the scenes. A few times I thought “What?!! How could that happen?? Come on!!” but then… some of the loose ends were tied enough for me to just go with it. 😉 That said, there was a TON of reality in this, in some of the darkest scenes. So detailed and raw. The way in which her writing imparts such a gritty honesty, completely made this story.

Sure, it’s not as “tight” as her past stories are, however it is JUST as fun, and maybe even more so because she lets loose in this. While it was a completely different kind of storyline for her, where she “goes there” by way of sex scenes, crude language, and outright horrible situations (both emotional and physical).

I’m guessing it’s due to the fact that she wrote this, piece by piece releasing it on Wattpad over the course of weeks, completing it… a “few” times. LOL!!! You’ll see what I mean, as there are a few “endings” and then… “not-so-endings” and then epilogues, and prologues and it’s all just fine (even in its unusual progression), and surprising outcomes… because it now feels complete.

And THAT ending was the one that made this story just plain exciting, and traumatizing and awesome.

4.5 stars!!!! <— just for the thrill ride she took us on, alone!!

MichelleS: I absolutely LOVED Dumplin’. How could I not? It takes place in a small Texas town (I work in a small Texas town) and it was spot on. The giant homecoming mums and all. You haven’t let me down yet, Bev, with your coming of age books: E&P, Simon vs THSA, and now Dumplin’. When I need a book like this, I will come right to you!!! I couldn’t put it down, literally.

  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo <— SIX DANGEROUS OUTCASTS ALERT!!! This sounds GREAT!!! And it was a top favorite amongst some of our fellow readers. In fact one of my ABSOLUTE favorite authors LOVED this one and it’s on super-sale today!
Suanne: Six of Crows is still echoing in my head. Smart. Exciting. Suspenseful. A hint of swoon. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. You thought you had it figured out and then—WRONG! It gave me a total panic attack. Loved it.
  • Defying the Odds (Battered Hearts Book 1) by Kele Moon <— CHAMPION FIGHTER MEETS WAITRESS ALERT! ONE OF MY FAVORITES IN THE GENRE!!! And OMG to me, he was the ultimate in no-nonsense, brooding bad-asses, and I JUST LOVED how this book started. Endeared me to this grumpy guy so hard! It’s super-bargain priced right now!!! Here’s my review.
  • Cougar Christmas: (Older Woman/Younger Man Christmas Romance) by Evangeline Anderson <— EVANGELINE ANDERSON JUST WENT LIVE ALERT!!!
