Books that are “re-read” good!

So, it’s true that I’m not much on re-reading a book. I know many of my fellow readers LOVE re-reads (and often prepare for a new release in a series by re-reading the previous books) but… I’m usually good with one read through. After all, by now, I already know what happens, right? It couldn’t have *that* same effect on me twice, could it?

But there are SOME that I have re-read. A precious few, and sure enough, surprise of all surprises, the feeling was still there. That intensity. The stomach drops, and the heart clenches. And yes,  I knew what was going to happen, so the exciting guess work was gone, but the butterflies over some of those scenes (and for the book as a whole) were still as strong. And SO worth the re-read.

So Kaycee asked me (which prompted me to prepare this post!):

Kaycee: Maryse, I have always wondered which books you have read more than once coz you loved it so much? And were they still good the second time round? 🙂

Maryse’s Book Blog (Paranormal & Urban Fantasy) Only 3 books and yes, all three of ’em were almost just as good as the first time. The only thing lacking was that I already knew the outcome, but in that case, I got to indulge more in the rest since I wasn’t in a race anymore to know what happens.

The books I have read more than once

1. Beautiful Disaster: A Novel by Jamie McGuire (twice in a row, and once more a year later) – I can never get enough of Travis. *heart* him almost the most of all of ’em. (Here’s my review):

2.) Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 3) by J.R. Ward (twice, and I’m wanting to read it a 3rd time – I can’t get enough of Zsadist and his brooding moodiness. I even want to read book #2 again, just so I can get that ending with Zsadist before we move onto his book. (Here’s my review)

3.) Rock Me (Ross Siblings) by Cherrie Lynn – I wanted to see if Brian would still have that intensity since I’ve read so many tattooed bad boys since him, and YES. Oh YES. Loved it a second time, too. (Here’s my review)

Rita: I’ve found myself reaching for old favorites this year rather than new ones, so a list of re-read worthy books sounds perfect to me!

Deborah: We are of like minds, Maryse. I have loved Travis ever since I first read…andreread…and reread…Beautiful Disaster. There is just something about that beautiful, tortured bad boy that grabs you (I wish) and doesn’t let go.

Amanda: Reading Beautiful Disaster was a welcome back to reading for me – and boy what an amazing book to do it with! I think it have read and reread that book at least 10 times – and each time is better than the next! Travis is everything is girls want in a book boyfriend and more! Badass, fit, committed (to the right woman), ridiculously sweet and HAWT! I loved how he developed throughout he book – from a man whore to the perfectly flawed boyfriend! I love all of the books this far in the Beautiful Disaster series…

Kelly: BDB – what can I say except THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Maryse for turning me on to this series.  (pun intended)  How lucky am I that I didn’t know about the them until a few months ago?  Love vampires, love hot guys, romance, action, hot guys…  oops, already said that.  I was so lucky I’ve been able to read them all without having to wait until the next one came out, except now I’ve caught up and have to wait until “The King”.  Waaaaaaaaa  I can’t stop thinking about them and have re-read a bunch of them, some parts of them move than once (Quinn and Blay.  Hot!)  After reading all your gushing about Z, I re-read it and I think him, V and Revhenge are my faves.

Those are my absolute favorites. And I’m going to add that I’ve pretty much re-read Twilight. LOL! Well, all of the highlighted parts in my paper book where I put little sticky tabs all over. Which was… pretty much the whole book. OMG did that one make me swooooooon. *phew* I can’t wait to find another one that has THAT affect on me again.

  • Black Lies by Alessandra Torre <— Joe loved it. And I agree Joe, this one was pretty remarkable! She says:

“A Much Younger Man – written by Dianne Highbridge and unfortunately not available on Kindle.  It is an older book and deals with an extreme (to me) age difference and as it is based in Australia, with their age of consent.  It is not a long book, but absolutely beautifully written – from the reviews on Amazon, it is clear that the writing style is not everyone’s cup of tea.  Due to the age difference, I didn’t know whether I should hope for them to be together or not :). I reread my faves all the time and this is the one I have reread most – can you tell I love the book??”

Alison G. Bailey – Perfect Series Reading Order

<— I read this one (it made me crrrryyyyyyy)!!! And now there are two more books (the third was just released and it’s already getting GREAT reviews). So here’s the reading order, a link to my review of book #1 —> (Present Perfect) and some comments from our fellow readers about how much they love ’em!

Jen: My favorite book this year has been Present Perfect by Alison G. Bailey. I loved the story of Amanda and Noah.

Marilyn: I love this book so much! When a book grabs a hold of your heart then rips it out of your chest and then puts it back, that’s a win! I wanted a deep book that made me feel, like really feel and this book delivered. And the guy…. WOW. He made me yearn to meet a guy like him, he was soooooo swoony. I love love love Noah! It was a 5 star for me.

Kylie: The angst and emotion is killing me, or my stomach I should say!  Amanda (Tweet) is relatable even if I want to shake her and scream at her most of the time so far!  I can’t wait to see where this story goes but I am terrified at the same time!

Dana: This book hurt!! I have a wicked book hangover right now because I could NOT stop reading last night. I haven’t had a book make me physically ache like this since thoughtless. Or was it effortless? Eh, they all did it to me but this hurt.

About book #1:

Tijan – Jaded Series Reading Order

The super-popular Tijan has another series out, and the third book is releasing December 30th! Remember her “Fallen Crest” series that was making everyone excited? This one sounds crazy, too!

Susan: Hey guys if you love the fallen crest series then you should definitely read Tijan’s Broken and Screwed series, ooh and the Jaded series – seriously just as amazing as this one x

Linh: I love love LOVE Tijan!  Fallen Crest is my favorite series but I also like the Jaded series a lot too.

Erica: She also wrote Jaded and Still Jaded and Broken and Screwed which I love soooo much!!!! She is just an awesome writer!

Tessa: I have until Dec. 30 to read Still Jaded, huh?  (I will never, ever, ever, ever read an ending of a book again.  It ruins everything!)  Thank goodness for book three.  Now book two is no longer ruined… I think?

About book 1:

Sheldon doesn’t care about anyone except Corrigan and Bryce. The three of them rule their school, but it seems someone else wants in on the action or that someone else just wants Sheldon. How many bodies is enough to prove their love to her?

Book Review – Alarm by Shay Savage

I just finished it yesterday, and yesss I knowwwwww, it’s still on pre-order but will be releasing in just 2 days, so not much longer to wait, my friends! It’s a a fun, exciting, sexy, easy “bad boy” read with a bit of mystery and intrigue to boot. Appearances can be deceiving (or telling) and this “good girl” has her suspicions of her new “bad boy” friend.

So what’s it about?

Chloe (straight-laced and happy that way) gets a little tipsy one night out at a bar with friends. She finds herself very attracted to someone (Aiden) that she’d normally consider NOT her type (scary looking), but there’s just something about him that calls to her, and they just keep bumping into each other as the night wears on.

I always thought things through before I did them. I rarely opened my mouth without thinking first. I thought about the impact of my actions on other people before I did anything.

Then I met him.

The alarm in my head went off immediately.

I ignored it.

And when he eventually offers to take her home (she can’t drive in that condition) she wakes up in HIS home. In his bed. With him. *gasp!!!!* (No worries… it’s not what it looks like. Yet). 😉

He seems sweet, gentle, protective and really into her. Pushes her buttons and challenges her “comfort-zones”. In fact, he proposes that she go with him to South Florida for a week, and even though they just met, she’s tempted. Dangerously so.

No. I wasn’t going to think that way. I didn’t want to know. If I knew-if I knew for sure-I’d have to get out. I couldn’t stay around if I knew what he really did. As long as I didn’t know, I could pretend…

She throws caution to the wind and all that. But does it come back and bite her in the butt? *snort!!*

That’s when the fun really begins. A scary adventure between two strangers that can’t help but entertain their attraction. At first it’s all beaches and sea shells and sweetness. That’s when they really get comfortable with each other. And then… *things* happen… she really becomes suspicious. And those *things* get crazy!

It’s pretty much got everything I like. Her POV (so he remains a mystery to me…), a few dark secrets that had me guessing, a super-sweet bad-ass, but with moments of eeeeeeeep-worthy reactions.

This man was not the one who cooked breakfast for me. This was a man consumed with raw fury.

Total angsty, super-irresponsible (you’ll see) eek, “bad-boy” guilty pleasure! Lots of intense romance (and super-steamy/quite dirty *blush*) scenes, along with the angst that had my heart clenching hard a few times. A bit fast in the intense-attraction-turned-relationship department, and a bit over-the-top in regards to the big reveals (and how some things played out), but a fun romp, as long as you just “go with it” and are in for the love. Er…. I mean… potential love. 😉
